Alongside with dBASE from Ashton Tate they led the battle one of the most important frontlines in the battle for PC based solutions. R:BASE is still on the market and continues to evolve its products and now it is time to go mobile. Apparantly, R:BASE agrees with many more in this industry. Syware's Visual CE provides an attractive way to mobilize data and R:BASE decides to team up with them.

More developer news today include the release of three .NET Compact Framework tools from Intelliprog. The controls are: HTMLViewer, DateTimePicker, and RichInk. (Source: Jimmy Dodd)
Our friend John Cody also notes that it is now official: the next version of Smartphone will include .NET Compact Framework in ROM!

Read for the entire R:BASE press release! <!>
R:BASEŽ Technologies Chooses SYWARE's Visual CEŽ Software Toolset to Add Mobility to Robust R:BASE Database System

Cambridge, MA (March 19, 2003) - R:BASE Technologies, Inc., developer of the industrial strength, multi-user, relational database R:BASE, has partnered with SYWARE, Inc., to launch the first mobile member of the R:BASE family of database products, Pocket R:BASE. The new software, designed for the Pocket PC platform, combines R:BASE's expertise in robust database management systems with SYWARE's award-winning mobile forms development toolset, Visual CE.

"Our customers need to collect and send data from a variety of challenging environments," said A. Razzak Memon, President and CEO of R:BASE Technologies. "Our reputation for industrial strength software meant that we needed an experienced partner to provide us with the right toolset to launch our mobile product. SYWARE's expertise in Pocket PC development and their powerful Visual CE form building software were what we needed to allow our customers to share robust R:BASE databases in a mobile environment. Pocket R:BASE lets operators create a wide variety of custom forms in minutes and synchronize the data that's collected directly to the R:BASE database. It's a robust, go-anywhere combination."

Intuitive Database & Forms Builder Software
Pocket R:BASE is based on Visual CE's powerful forms development environment. It provides an intuitive, drag-and-drop interface that allows operators to quickly create forms and interface with R:BASE databases without coding. Forms can be designed and maintained either on a Pocket PC handheld or on a desktop computer. Once the application is developed, records can be easily beamed from one handheld device to another. Other features include pop-up word lists, the ability to create pre-defined data filters, robust font selection, multi-select dropdowns, and calculations on string data. A macro programming capability allows for the easy creation of multi-step sequences.

Pocket R:BASE will be unveiled at the R:BASE Developers' conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, April 4-7, 2003.

About R:BASE Technologies
R:BASE Technologies, Inc. is a privately held company that develops and supports database management systems and related rapid application development software.
