Can you use a wireless router as a bridge? What I want to do is I have my DSL modem in our office but we want to have wireless access a couple rooms away and sometimes the signal is not strong enough so I was thinking of putting a router in the other room but it would not be connect to the Internet as that would mean buying another DSL modem.

So...

A) Is this possible?

B) Since we get such a poor signal in the other room with the laptop, would the router pick up the signal any better?

Thanks in advance.

You could break with tradition and use an actual bridge ;). Linksys has a WET11 that can sit in your remote area.

Thanks Sven, I didn't know there was actually a product called a bridge. LOL

Doing some research, the bridge seems to run about $130 US where as the router I'm currently using ( http://www.linksys.com/Products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=415 ) runs as low as $90 US. Is it possible to use a WAP as a bridge or would I specifically need to purchase a bridge to do what I'm trying to do?

Oh, and I didn't set up any passwords or anything on my network. It's pretty much open. I don't have anything anyone wants unless they're looking for MP3's or porn. (J/K;))

I think you probably could use the AP portion of the router/AP as a bridge, but how much is your time worth per hour? ;) (not even counting the aggravation factor) With the bridge you stick all the remote/other area PCs into a switch, along with the bridge, configure an IP or two and you are done.
