Apparently this was debuted at CeBit. Anyone have any idea as to when I'll be able to be a mobile couch potato?

looks cool, but a Sony memoryschtick (blech  )

If the reception was decent, it would be nice, but OTA analog broadcasts are going away, so it would be best if there was a tuner that worked in landscape mode: 16x9 HD OTA digital :-)

According to this PDA Buzz report (http://forums.pdabuzz.net/showthread.php?threadid=45896), the Memory Stick TV tuner is nothing more than "a product concept mock-up" and that Sony has "no plans to commercialize" as of yet.

Presumably, that's because they know my xda only has an SD slot and they're working on miniaturising it further. ;)

I really think a TV tuner for PocketPC might be a fair distance away yet.
For $200 USD you can get a great Casio or sharp handheld TV.

From what I understand, I think the hardest item to miniturize is the RF modular for composite video output from the card or conversion of the RF TV signal directly to digital. Not a popular design consideration and I have not seen any OEM manufacturers working on a chip or something that could make the final product cost effective to manufacture.

One way is to use the Flyjacket with a handheld Casio TV with composite output. This will allow you to transfer programs to your PocketPC if you have enough memory to do so. http://www.lifeview.com.tw/eng/pro_ia_fyjacket.html#key

That's if you have an iPAQ that is.

I have enough problems with the TV Tuner card in my PC...I am not sure I would really want one in my Pocket PC. Though it would be cool to have, software like SnapStream is (in my opinion) a great solution for getting TV video on your Pocket PC.

Gee... If this memory stick thing comes to life, I wonder if it'll work with the sleeve I have from MemPlug/  (Hey... I wanted to be able to see the pics from my Sony digi cam, ok?) :D

There was an iPAQ sleeve that was a TV tunner. Sadly, the article was so old that it was deleted from the archives of www.flashenabled.com. It looked awesome, he had video and everything on the site of the TV Tunner. It never made it out of the Beta area though. And worst, it only worked on Pocket PC 2000. Anyone have the link to the site?

Fumbling with emoticons....

[Update] Here's the link: http://www.insomedia.com/denalianv/ and no, it doesn't work with pocket pc 2002 yet.

I'm using Windows Media Encoder to stream DirecTV to my Pocket PC using a Dazzle DVC80 USB (http://www.dazzle.com/products/dvc80.html). It has SVideo inputs and stereo sound through the line-in on my SBLive! Not anything near DVD quality, but for the price it works perfect for streaming to PPC.

I also have a set of these (http://www.rca.com/product/viewdetail/0,2588,PI773,00.html?) set up so I can control the reciever from outside the house using the Nevo universal remote on my iPAQ.

Now when we have our summer BBQ's I won't miss any of the games while working the grill.

UPDATE: It works great streaming to my Armada laptop via WiFi also.

I just need to find some PVR software with scheduling that will work with my DVC80 and the DirecTV Serial Control Util (http://www.pcmx.net/dtvcon/) to record shows so I can reencode them for my iPAQ.
