Been through the boards and would like to refresh the news on any new hardware advances using the PocketPC Phone OS

Personally I'm looking for the following in a PocketPC Phone OS and no I will not bow-down to the GSM/GPRS CF slot as I am a heavy user of both the phone and the pocketpc:

transflective screen - 64K colors (must have)
SIDO card slot (must have)
GSM/GPRS (msut have)
integrated bluetooth (would love to have)
64mgbs memory (must have)
remove-able backup battery or even main battery (would love to have)

I've read that o2 is fielding something close to this in Asia and that HP is looking to do something with their 5400 series for release this summer (however knowing HP that means that it will release in October...). Any news from anyone of devices for release in the US is much appreciated as I am looking to replace the cell and iPAQ 3650 (2002 OS) in the summer time frame. Lugging around both is getting VERY old.

I wish the LOOX would have stuck to their old fielding promise - the GSM/GPRS add-on pack, but alas, their business move to drop it in favor of that CF card has now dropped them from my search... Large Sigh..

I believe the Samsung SGH-i700 will have all three of these. I also believe it has 64MB. It does not have Bluetooth, though. And no news if T-Mo will carry it, it was only announced a few weeks ago.

It's believed that Sprint will be carring the CDMA version, though.

Janak,

Here's something you may find interesting. I had the Nokia Communicator (I enjoyed it less the lack of software) and although you do not see it in the T-Mobile stores; they "supported" it. So, if any device will have a SIM slot available to it it will be and can be used with T-Mobile service (from what I was told). I had internet service agreement and a fax service through T-Mobile using the Communicator without any difficulties. Then the Pocket PC Phone came and that was it for me and the switch was made.

Pocket PC code named falcon that may be for t-mobile, Cingular, etc. (GPRS, GSM type) built-in GPS receiver, etc.

There's the Samsung i700 [GPRS & CDMA], (mentioned above) the Hitachi G1000 both with built in camera's, on the CDMA type networks (Sprint, Verizon, etc.) "Available from Sprint some time in the second quarter."

Additionally there is the possibility of the ipaq (pictured below) (<most likely the 5600 series>)
Second half of 2003, probably shortly after, or around the time of the 2200 series with SD&CF

Correct -- you can buy the P800 unlocked from Europe and use it with T-Mobile. But neither the Communicator nor the P800 are Phone Edition devices, and the big problem with the Nokia Communicator was the lack of vibrate or GPRS.
