I have an Ipaq 3955 and was wondering how good this browser is as compared to Pocket Internet Explorer. Is there a better one?

Much better than Pocket IE, specially with Java, but it will take 6mb of your RAM, thats a lot of memory! :|

The browser works well but the java that netfront uses doesn't work with x-scale devices yet. I have it installed on a ipaq 5450 and had it installed on a 3970 and the java didn't work. Hopefully they get java working with x-scale.

I used NetFront on my 3855 and ask me why to use the CSS-enable feature with a PPC screen. Yes if the page sticks HTML rules then the pocket ie renders it better than NetFront. BTW most sites are far from good CSS layouts and don't have a mobile version, so if you want visit them completly you must use NetFront.

Example : go to http://www.nota-bene.org with pie and with netfront and you will see that pie has a better render.

You can split NetFront so 300k is in RAM and 5.2MB of .exe and .dll bulk is on SD card.

I was afraid someone would ask! I did it by trial and error, moving elements, duplicating small files and creating .lnk files.

Here is what is in Programs>NetFront3 folder:

cache folder
core.jar
keybind.conf
NetFront3.lnk
NF3.cok
NF3.vis
NFv30.che
title_e.gif
top.html

TOTALS: 291.5kb

In SD Card>NetFront3 folder:

AutoCrawler folder
lib folder
core.jar
jltpe.dll (2.3MB)
keybind.conf
NetFront3.exe (2.5MB)
NetFront3.lnk
NF3.cok
NF3.vis
NFv30.che
title_e.gif
top.html

TOTAL: 5.13MB

Duplicated the 7 common small files for both folders.

And left the 35 nf3_xxx.htm help files in Windows (about 50kb).

Plus NetFront3 .lnk shortcuts as needed to display in Start menu.

I used Pocket Explorer and wimr for setting it up.

YRMV, but works perfectly for me. 0X

Got to use the new emoticon.

A little program/script would be nice to automate this.
So anybody know how to write a batch file on a ppc?
I haven't tried eVB yet, but I suppose I could do it that way.

Thanks for this tip. Using NetFront 3.1 I followed the spirit of your post (a few things were different) and it worked great.

When I downloaded Netfront 3.1 I had Activesync put it on my SD card and that is where the bulk of it is. There is a small part that goes to RAM, but my point is that is was automatic, I didn't have to do anything other than direct it to the SD card.
