Do I have a faulty Loox screen?

Everyone says the screens are pretty good - mine is not!

By itself, the first thing I noticed about it was that every colour had a mild pink cast to it - very noticable on whites and blacks.

Got used t it though, until my friend showed me his new Axim.

Totally different - whites were white, black where black, and colours were vibrant.

Is mine faulty?

You're comparing different beasts. The Axim has a transflective display, while the Loox has a reflective display. Transflectives generally have better contrast and colors.

I know, but in a side by side test, the loox is TERRIBLE.
And MUCH pinker.

I'd seen that page, but tht was literally the only reference on the web to the pink problem, so I wasn't sure whether to take it seriously or not.

No-one else had mentioned it.

I'll go into Dixons on Thursday, look at the one they have on display - wasn't powered on last time. :(

You really need to compare your loox to another one ideally in a daylit room as the problem seems worse under these conditions...

At LooXuser.com we have a number of machines to compare against and we believe this pink cast/washed out colour is a fault. In our experience we found that the situation was temporarily cured by a hard reset.

Despite this not being a widespread issue our advice is to return the machine for a replacement or repair.

belfast-biker,

I went through the same thing, couldn't decide if my screen was faulty or not. I eventually decided that if you compare the Loox screen to an iPaq (or any PDA with a transflective screen) you're just asking for trouble and disappointment!

While I was trying to decide if my screen was dodgy or not, I did some research and it seems that the pinkish cast is a known drawback to this type of reflective display. If you use your Loox for a few days without comparing it to any other PDAs, especially ones with transflective displays, you'll get used to it and not even notice the pink discoloration or lack of contrast.

It's really not that bad! :D

Yeah, I only got really depressed when comparing it to my friends much cheaper Axim.... I'll copare it with another loox if I get a chance.
