Very cool indeed. There's a whole segment of the PC industry that's getting very creative with this stuff. Check out http://www.mini-itx.com/ for some more examples and how to forums. Makes the "beige box" look like it's getting closer to it's last leg (Please!!!).

Love it....

I think that anyone who has the dedication, time and patience to take on a project like this deserves major credit.

Now for an encore, maybe we could have a 4.7Ghz, fully loaded, in a 1/100th scale ....... Skoda.

Have a look at this one then:

http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/kisa444/

The "KiSA 444 Surface to Surface PC"

Chris Adams disarmed a U.S. Air Force surplus bomb tail assembly and gave it a much more useful payload - a Mini-ITX motherboard running Redhat 8. Our weapons inspectors report that its improved capabilities include MP3 and DivX playback, and that the inner workings have a propensity for turning up in unusual places.

Wow I am inspired. I was planning on building another computer this summer in a plain box. I've changed my mind now. I want to build a system in some crazy container. Anyone have a crazy idea for me?

How about inside a REAL car! :D Wouldn't it be great to have integrated computing functionality in a car? 8)

I've done the real car deal before and I am doing it again. You need a couple of things and around 1200 for a great system in your car that can do GPS, Voice Command etc with RF wireless keyboard/mouse and such with a 7" LCD touchscreen 800x480 resolution SVGA monitor.

I am thinking this guy used mostly laptop parts. A desktop power supply wouldn't fit in that model.

Go to the toy store and look at plastic models. You could do a ship, submarine, large plane, Millinium Falcon, etc.

How about a bust of Saddam Hussein?

I believe this is a prime example of someone with WAY too much time on their hands.

Creative little sucker thought. The geek factor is to low. Someone needs to make a computer in the shape of the USS Enterprise D. The motherboard can be in the saucer section along with the CD ROM Drive where the main shuttle bay is. USB Ports could be where the impulse engines are. Exhaust for the CPU could be where the secondary impulse drives are on the saucer section. The hard drive could be in the secondary hull along with the power supply. :D

I've seen a cube case that sits on it's corner tip with a stand. That is only 1 cubic foot in volume and I think it would look cool. I wanted a cube computer or.. put it in a apple g4 case.

These are the guys that make the car. I know the brother of the owner of the site/business.

Actually, he used a very compact desktop mainboard (a Via Eden solution). There are also very compact micro-ATX power supplies. This thing is actually more of a desktop than a laptop, which makes it all that more impressive.

There's a guy working on a 1/6 scale Chevy Avalanche computer, with built in speakers, screen, etc... and when you unplug it, it's still remote control so you can drive it :)

there are 909 replies, unfortunately, there seem to be a ton of red Xs (pics not displaying)..

Very cool, but shouldn't a Porsche have a bit more "under the hood"?

How about an over-sized version of your favorite Pocket PC? :-D Wrap the case around a flat panel LCD monitor. The CF and/or SD slots could be your CD/DVD drives.

Wow! This site just keeps popping up everywhere! First on ExtremeTech, now here! I've had it as my homepage for months.

My favorite is the Humidor 64 (http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/humidor64/)

<edit>
That's not a Pentium III, by the way. It's a VIA processor of some sort, and it's actually slower that a Celeron of comparable speed.

Surely scale models of the Millenium Falcon or the Enterprise must be o that list somewhere.

Okay, I like the Humidor 64. Only thing is you still hve those darn wires hanging out the back.

I've hidden my PC in the desk but I can't get rid of all the wires. Sure Bluetooth, wireless keyboards and mouse all help, but you still need power and a connection to your monitor.

I am going to have to think on this for my Video editing computer I'll be building this summer.

Here's a new Mini-Itx shown at CeBit today. (http://rss.com.com/2110-1041-992464.html?type=pt&part=rss&tag=feed&subj=news) This is especially timely for me as I just set up a Dell PE 600SC in my home office this week and it sounds like a freight train. Of course, this new Mini-Itx wouldn't dare be used in a true server capacity, but it's nice to see a slient machine. Steve Jobs would be happy. :D
