Hi,

I've tried updating my LOOX's Windows Media with the upgrade available on Microsoft's website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/pocket/playerupdate.aspx

Since then, Windows Media fails to start with the following message:

"There are no skin files present on your device.

Either reinstall WMP or go to http://www.microsoft.com for more skins"

Needless to say I've installed, re-installed, un-installed, etc, without any success. Couldn't find any available skins for Pocket WMP or any information about this error.

Re-flashing the LOOX fixes the problem, but as soon as I restore my backup, the problem returns with it.

Any ideas? Is there a specific WMP upgrade for the LOOX?

Thanks,

fcx

Well, I found a solution myself.

Even through I do not know how or why this happened, other users in the forums for other PDAs were reporting the same sort of behaviour. I've collated a few ideas and comments from others, and managed to come up with a solution that I would like to share:

- Go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/pocket/custom.aspx#default

- Here download any skin

- Unzip it to a directory on your desktop (or your preferred temp dir).

- On your ActiveSync, explore you device and go to "\Mobile Device\Program Files\Windows Media Player\"

- Drag and drop your skin directory from your desktop PC to this folder on the PDA

- Start Pocket WMP and it will ask you for the default skin.

- Select the skin you have just imported and

VOILA!

It works, so I really don't even care anymore why it failed... It must be another one of those MS tricks...
