I did a search on the forums and could not find a definitive answer on this question, so I thought I would create a new post with the exact question in the Subject, in case others might have this same question too.

What is the difference between the 5450 and 5455?

Don't say "Brick and Mortar" because Mobile Planet sells both!
I know it is mainly a minor difference in bundled software, but I want to know what that entails!
I am getting ready to make my purchase very soon (hours, perhaps), and want to be properly informed on this detail!

Thanks!
Matt

I don't recall anyone saying that there was even a difference in the software that was shipped.

The box is definately different. ;)

I'm pretty sure its just a branding thing.

One of them is the model number for model purcahased directly from HP and the other is for models that are purchased through retailers. I can't remember which is which at the moment.

You don't want the "Brick and Mortar" answer? Then here's the only other one: the 5455 comes in a nice box with pretty pictures and the 5450 comes in a plain brown box.

That's all there is to it. Everything inside the box is the same.

In that case I think that the 5455 is the one that is made for retail sales and the 5450 is the one for sales from HP.

I purchased my 5450 (that's what the label says) from PC Connection and it came in a brown box with just a simple HP logo on the outside.

I'm sure that retailers can get these models, but if you go into a CompUSA or Fry's you're not going to see a 5450.

The -0 iPAQs are typically sold to business customers, while the -5 models are sold to consumers. As proof, go to the HP Handhelds Web page (http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/prodserv/handheld.html). Clicking on the hp iPAQ Pocket PC link (http://www.hpshopping.com/cgi-bin/shopping/site_entrance.cgi?template_type=storefronts&category=handhelds&aoid=1462) in the handhelds for home & home office section will show you the 5455; clicking on the business handhelds link (http://h20022.www2.hp.com/busprod/CatAtAGlance/0,,type=64929%5Ecategory=,00.html?lsidebarLayId=491) in the handhelds for business section will show you the 5450.

At one time, someone claimed that the 5455 did not include the cradle, but I've heard that's not true.

NOTE: The 1910 seems to be an exception to the above rule. Both the home and business sides have the 1910.

Itīs is much easier:
In Europe are colled (f. i.) 3760, 3850, 3870 (B.T.), 3850, 3970 (BT) and the 5450.
No xxx5 at all.

The sale on line but also have a shop.
The best place to buy directly is in El Corte Ingles, there is a Department Store, and you can give back during 15 days.

My guess then is that the iPaq's are imported by retailers and this will add aditional cost.

The 5450 is branded for corporate users, whereas the 5455 is for the consumer. Besides the number, it's the same. I just recently purchased one from www.buydig.com. Lowest prices and fast shipping.

Good luck with it,

Dave

The 5455 comes with a free premier leather case (http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpdirect/shopping/scripts/product_detail/product_detail_view.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1409802115.1045269517@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdeadchifejgggcfngcfkmdfondfgg.0&product_code=900612&cat_level=1&browse_link=true) for the same price.

I've been told the difference between the 5450 and 5455 is that the 5450 ships with the Danish Denmark Battery and the 5455 ships with the inferior Korean battery.

I think actually that the difference is not between model numbers, but instead between product revisions. I believe the latest 5455's ship with the Denmark battery.

Very interesting! So, regardless of which model, it sounds like some of the battery issues that I've heard about in other threads could be tied to the crappy Korean battery...
Anyone else have an opinion on that speculation?
