Most likely either an alarm going off (like an appointment reminder). Check your tasks and appointments to see if that's the "culprit."

I'm not real familiar with the e740 (I'm an iPAQ guy), but could it be the WiFi indicator blinking to show you don't have a signal? My WiFi card has a light that blinks when the radio is off or there's no signal.

I have had the same problem... I did a soft reboot and it worked. Of course, I wish it wouldn't have happened in the first place.
