Newbie wireless networking help

I hoping some will be a blr to help me with a problem networking my Toshiba e740 to my home wireless network. I have been able to get on to the internet wirelessly and just today I was able to Activesync wirelessly...but I still cant seem to access my shared folders on my PC wirelessly. I've been using the File Explorer to try and connect to my shared folders on my pc but nuthing is happening. It appears to be connecting (im getting the little icon that lets you know its "thinking") but a directory never seems to pop up. Ultimatly i want to be able to browse my shared folders on my home pc and my shared folders at work and copy mp3s and other files without using activesync. Can anyone help me or let me know if this can be done.

Have you tested with another computer to verify that computer you are wanting to share is on the network.

I have had no problem connected my e740 to my desktop. Although somtimes I need to do a wirless sync before File Explorer can connect to my desktop.
