You can pick one up for $65 - I'd almost get one just for the nostalgic value! Ah, the memories of Windows CE 2.11...it's amazing how far we've come!

I remember being in awe of how advanced it was!

Now I have a Toshiba E330 that makes that thing look like a cinder block :)

Truth be told, I really do remember that bad boy, and as was the case with most of the handhelds at the time, HP was not only ahead of the curve, it was creating the curve. Funny how that never really changed.

My first two handhelds were HP:

HP 200lx (can someone say DOS?)
HP 320lx (still one of the best I've ever owned)...

Ah.... Those were the days...

I'd get another e105 if Casio sold them for only $68! I mean, they can play music and with PocketMVP they can play movies pretty good. It'd be kinda cool to like have a whole bunch of e105s to play with...

Hehe... HP had to buy Compaq in order to still be ahead in the PPC arena!

Casio was ahead of HP for a while, there, with the e10x device. I mean, no other Palm-sized PC came close. Built-in stereo CD quality sound, integrated CF card, STILL the best screen... not to mention the then-amazing 131MHz... The 32 MB of RAM of the e105 (16MB for the e100) was what told me that I HAD to get the Casio one. I was right. Still a decent PDA.

I opened mine up a month ago. It was packed nicely for it's time. Compare that to the new toys we have today. 1910 comes to mind.

Man...

wanna see something else. How about the old HP Omnigo 100?

It is still working and sitting on my table.

Hehe... HP had to buy Compaq in order to still be ahead in the PPC arena!

Don't misconceive that it is far easier to improve a technology after the fact it has been invented rather than invent it, or contribute a substantial amount of engineering resources to invent, manufacture and spearhead the marketing of a emerging technology. Not many companies can successfully undertake such endeavors, much less for 40 years and running as hp continues to do. Not to understate compaq's contributions to the current state of the pocketpc, however, competition is good. Especially now with more power players in the market to "one-up" eachother. With strong competition, we all benefit with more advanced units to do more things with. :grab:

I'd get one just because it contains the magic word: JORNADA!

Long Live Jornada!

I personally do not like the iPaq name. Sounds so much like the iMac.

I did not like the iPaq shapes either. Can't you decide if you want to be a rectangular PDA or a circular PDA? I hate the bottom rounding thing. TO be honest 1910 is the very first iPaq i like and bought.

Ahhh..... the purple dinosaur. I remember lusting after one of these but just before I purchased it the Casio E105 was announced and I held off. Nothing's changed, really!

Three friends of mine still use their E105s daily. One thing about PDAs is that if you do only use the PIM functions, they don't really get obsolete quite as quickly as desktops do.

Casio E105, Casio E115, Jornada 548, Jornada 568..... waiting for a PPC 2003 device

For a minute there, I thought I was looking at the Clie NZ-90, after all ther AREN'T any bricks in the PPC line-up anymore (like the old CE units).

I remember lusting after the E-100 and finally getting one and being amazed at all that raw 131 MHz power at my hands -- playing an .mpg movie for the first time seemed like MAGIC.... handhelds have come a long way in a very short time!

Am I the only one who noticed that these very old Jornadas have the same amount of memory as the newest Palm OS units?

Didn't that particular model get used by James Bond in one of the Brosnan movies?

I had the model directly below that, the 450 which didn't look as cool, despite having pretty much the same body as the 450, because mine was a Fisher Price blue!

Never mind, I liked it and my sister still uses it.

Cool eh?

Wow, I have not seen this model in a long time! This was the PDA that made me switch from a Palm to WinCE. Bought back then and have not gone back to the PalmOS since!

I have used my 430 everyday for past 2 years or so, and I still love it. But time marches on and I've just made the jump to a Dell Axim (when it arrives...I'm in the UK). It was either that or a Palm M515. Right decision or what??

Shoks.

My wife still uses her 420. The fact that it has a CF slot has come in handy with sharing files between our 2 devices while on the go. Also the IR port gets used alot.

Actually, Denise Richards' character Dr Christmas Jones used it in "The World Is Not Enough."

How appropriate! That thing looks like it runs off spent fuel rods or old warhead cores! :onfire:

(Don't tell me that, with Denise Richards on the screen, you were paying attention to the handheld?!?)

hmm... this might make a good backup pda in case the dreaded broken screen happens. Maybe use it for a gps module in the car or something? lots of possibilities.....

Yup I had one of these, the 430 SE (had Bond merchandise with it). It was a great device, in spite of the 4k colour limit. I upgraded to the 548 for $50 thanks to HP's refund offer.

The one thing about the 430 though, was that I was able to operate it w/o flipping the cover or removing it from the free case. Those extra buttons were great (start, exit button). I was able to singlehandedly read my Avant Go content while it was still in the case with the see-through flip cover in the closed position.

Some people complain about the lack of flip covers nowadays. I think HP had it perfect for that architecture at the time.

hehe I loved that device. I still have mine and it's running strong. My little brother is using it now.

But mine was the 430 se. It was the one in the James Bond movie. (it came with a 007 keychain and a free movie ticket for a theater not in my area.)

This was one device that I drooled over but never purchased. This is one of the few that I left on the shelf because I had so much invested in Handheld PC's. I think my excuse was it did not have Pocket Word or Excel. The funny thing is, I don't even use Pocket Word or Excel on my 3970.

I bought the 420 for development work - it was awful. Chunky, large battery from a some camcorder, dim screen that could only be seen from a 5 degree viewing angle, poor touch screen...

I was kind of pleased that it stopped working after a few months. And I don't see how they can call it an MP3 player, as I don't think it even has a stereo headphone socket or Media Player software.

It's on the shelf with my Nino, Aero and Casio devices now.

How funny! As I read this I glanced at my desk in front of me, where my Jornada 420 is sitting right here. I pulled it out the other day to play with just for kicks. My older 320LX, 100LX, and a Casio Zoomer are on a shelf right next to the desk.
