And it's not the only thing he zaps on his site...

Warning: Don't try this at home unless you're a qualified electrical engineer! Tesla coils and microwaved CDs can be very, very dangerous if not handled properly. (Actually, they can also be very dangerous even if you handle them properly...)

Do this at your own risk.

Cut a grape in half lengthwise, leaving a little bit of skin keeping the two halves together. Microwave on high (cut sides up) for 5-15 seconds (you'll know when it's done).

Pretty cool. Got that from an acquaintance.

This is about as bad as the guy who cleans his barbeque with liquid oxygen.

Note: This one does have movies.

That's exactly what I was thinking, except I wouldn't accidentally want to set my house on fire as a result of those darned CDs. I'm a software engineer, not a hardware engineer.

Wow. There are definitely some interesting ways to spend your time.

I heard about a website for these AOL CD's, where you can send them in. I think the website has some kind of quota of 1 million CD's.

I use the AOL CDs as frisbies . They fly pretty well.

Yeah I heard from that one. There's actually a page with pictures on it...along with other microwave "tricks"....

But I thought it was cut-side down, and on a plate or sth.

I don't think it's that dangerous to microwave CD's... I've been doing it for years... I usually just throw them in for 3 seconds on 'high'... and stop them right after the lights stop. The less graphics on the CD, the better (whatever they use to print them makes some pretty nasty smelling smoke). Also, it doesn't work very good with CD-Rs or -RWs.

Have fun...

Here are a couple sites on the subject:

Enjoy, but don't sue me, Pocket PC Thoughts, or anyone else if you mess something up. ;)

Ha! This is the coolest thread I've seen in a while!

I never knew about any of these tricks... those CD pyrotechnics dropped my jaw. That grape trick is unbelievable!!

BTW, what's being used to hold those CD's up?

Isn't this the same thing that V'Ger did to starships in Star Trek: The Motion Picture?
