Hi All,
Are there plans for a new version of Pocket PC (2003 maybe) and if so will Dell offer an upgrade for the X5?

Nothing is announced per se, but we are expecting a version soon. Well, make that sometime in the future. It's expected that Microsoft upgrade the OS about every two years. It's almost time! :D

Do you think it will be free for Axim users? What did compaq do when they went from PPC2000 to 2002? Hope they optimize it well for the Xscale.

If Dell wants to charge for the upgrade, they will. However, Compaq (I think) made the upgrade free for owners of iPAQs with ARM processors.

There's a slim chance of XScale optimization. Microsoft, when Pocket PC 2002 was launched, said that they would standardize the ARM processor archetecture. If companies like HP, Toshiba, and Dell jumped the gun on XScale incorporation into their handhelds, they're going to pay for it. However, Intel has announced a NEW XScale processor with more bus speed, so it should appear notably faster than the current ones. :)

No, we definitely paid. $29 (http://www.smb.compaq.com/html/ipaqsoftware/index.asp), to be exact.

Ok. I don't own an old iPAQ, so I didn't know. I speculated. That's one thing with this site: if you post something wrong, someone will correct you.

I took a look in another thread and it seems like the next version will have Xscale Optimization:
