And only $249 if you sign up for free as a State Street Direct member? Amazing! I don't know how long they'll have stock at this price since this is flying around the 'Net rapidly, <a href="http://www.ssdonline.com/detail_page.cfm?productid=SDCFB1000768&affid=T99">so act fast!</a> (affiliate)

Nuts! I know that my wife wouldn't ok buying this without her direct "ok" following a long talk of "Why do you *need* this hunny?"

Sigh... hopefully this shows the beginning of a trend. (And to think, I was going to look for a 512MB CF in 3 short weeks.)

Actually, if you became a member, the price drops to $249.95!!

Too bad I'm broke this week. I'm sure that when I get the money, the price will go up again.

:way to go:

I just ordered mine. Hooray for payday!!! I was just complaining about how quickly I filled up my 256MB CF card (mostly Audible books and MP3s).

And I love the additional $20 off if you register (free) for the "Member's Pricing" option.

Thanks for a great find :)

D'oh... there are times being broke stinks. :) Ah well, tis a fair price to pay for being a lazy bum. ;)
For now I'm still doing A-ok with my 128 CF. 8)

Seriously though, as truly awesome as 1gb of memory would be to have... I still have trouble playing $250 for memory. I'm starting to wonder if I'm alone in this. I mean, unless you have something major to store other than just more music than you could ever hear or a lot of movies... Eh, who knows. If I had $250 sitting around I'd jump at this so I guess I can't really talk. Think if you'd paid $600 for this. :?

I have problem paying $250 for a memory too. I normally wait til it drops to around 100 mark.

Rirath,
Not really, I don't do music or video or even heavy gaming on my iPAQ but my intention is to have a "universal" medium to go from iPAQ, to desktop, to laptop, to camera, to...

Frequently I am down at my parent's house "borrowing" their broadband connection. all too often I end up downloading large files which are then transfered to my home via CF card.

Well, I ordered one a little while ago. The SSD site said "InStock". Apparently, that is the same thing as "we hope to have them by next Wednesday", which is what they say once you order it.

Maybe it was too good to be true

I just bought a new card for Christmas...Doh!

I want to know if there's a way to use this technology for storage on our desktops? It's obviously getting cheaper to manufacture.

I'll reluctantly have to pass, too :( Can't afford to stray from my linear storage strategy -- SD for memory, CF for other things. And more and more of my gadget purchase plans are only taking SD (digicams, ultracompact PPC's w/ SD only)...

Plus I figure you can always put the SD memory card into that flush CF adapter, so I think this is the best way for me right now...

I wish this deal had been available around Thanksgiving, when I bought my 512 MB CF card. :-( Between MP3s and my GPS software and maps, that's all full now. I'd love to put more MP3s and the entire West Coast of the US on a card.

Sadly, car repairs and new tires seem a bit more important right now. :-)

Hmmm, I just ordered a $200 1GB MicroDrive last weekend. I've always preferred the no-moving-parts regular CF cards to the idea of a MicroDrive, but I wanted lots of space at a reasonable price. I would not have imagined that the 1 GB CF card would reach this price point this quickly. The MDs are due in stock until 02/12, the SSD page says these CF cards are due in stock 02/04... at least I have time to think... :?

And they have another:
http://www.ssdonline.com/detail_page.cfm?ProductID=DACOMFLASH1000&cfid=4972772&cftoken=67110107&CategoryID=8 Again 1GB CF card for $260 with the "member" discount. It is an off brand though.

As my all too intelligent wife said, "What's the catch?"

Gamma Ray

This is an amazing price, but I too have moved away from CF to SD. After using an H1910 for two months, I could never go back to the large PPCs and CF. I just wish these discounts would migrate to the 512MB SD cards. This site is selling one for $375 which is average, but almost four times the price of a 256MB SD card. $200 is my magic number on this...

Rirath
02-01-2003, 03:48 AM
My problem is (and feel free to tell me what my problems are  ) I don't anything else that can use a CF card, and I don't plan on owning anything else that could use a CF card in the foreseeable future. Makes it a bit harder to justify. My camera and mp3 player still runs on Smartmedia. (Not SD, SM. ) They work fine for me though.

Without being a member, that off-brand card is $10 more than the SanDisk one. I didn't compare the member prices, but why buy the off-brand if the SanDisk is the same price?

P.S. Please don't post long links "naked". The board software doesn't wrap them, and it resets the margins for the whole page, forcing horizontal scrolling. Use the URL tags, like this:

I've always wanted a 1GB card (when ever I look at catalogs I find myself drooling and muttering to myself "Me wanty") but the price of them has kept it a dream. It's good to see the price go down but $250 is still to much for me.

I think they will ship to Canada as well. I am going to call them Monday morning to confirm.

This is getting ridiculous! I JUST threw away the packaging for my recently purchased 1G microdrive @ $199. I would have GLADLY paid the extra $25 for this card  !

For those who think they will never need this much storage, think again. If you have an extensive music selection I would HIGHLY recommend this card (if you don't have a problem with sandisk). Both of my SD cards are sandisk and I have had zero problems up to this point.

Good question. Especially since the Sandisk website speaks of faster CF cards than their standard versions for use when speeds counts (e.g. 5 Megapix digicams). I think I will wait and see what the prices look like on the faster 1 GB CF cards in the next few months. I will need at least 800 MB of CF card space for Up-To-Date medical reference software and would want more than the remaining 200 MB for apps and data files. I would rather get my hands on a 1.5 or 2 GB CF card. Hopefully, the prices plummet in the next few months. :)

The new official prices for 1 GB CF cards at Sandisk.com is 299. Major retailers have not reduced their prices just yet. I was going to spend part of my Tax refund on a microdrive, but I might get this instead. Since it's a type 1 card, it will also fit in my camera too. Check it out here! Interesting. I wonder if SanDisk is going to come out with higher capacity CF and SD cards soon. Pretec announced 1.5GB, 2 GB and 3 GB CF cards at CES, I believe, and Panasonic has 512 MB and 1 GB SD cards.

I checked that link, too. It's not really SanDisk; it's esend.com, although the SanDisk site does send you there if you want to buy things. Their price for the 256 MB SD Cruzer was $120, but a plain 256 MB SD card was $190. I guess they haven't updated all of their prices yet.

A 1 GB card for under $200! That's even cheaper than the best deal of $206 that was posted on the home page. Even after California sales tax and shipping, it's still under $210.

You should submit that price as a news item.

This is just too good to pass up. I just obtained a return authorization number from HP for my 1G MD that I purchased a few weeks ago. As much as I HATE returning items, this was just to much. A type I card for slightly LESS than the type II? I didn't think I would ever see the day.

With price being close to equal, if anyone can offer any thoughts as to why the MD is better than the type I, I would appreciate it.

I've heard the MicroDrive is actually faster. If that's true, it means Flash RAM is a lot slower than dynamic RAM. The MicroDrive will take a lot more power, I believe, and has moving parts.

All in all, I'd probably take the RAM card over the MicroDrive, too.

I looked at the $109 512 CF card night before last, then I actually went back last night to order it. When i got there, much to my pleasant surprise, it was $89.99. While trying to post this message today I found another post on this forum where I could have gotten it for about $75 if I had used a code. But it will not accept a code after the order is placed, but I am not complaining. I'll take it. :D

So WHY are prices dropping like this at the moment? What is going on? Is there a new generation of technology about to be released? Not complaing!
