It is designed to be usable by both experienced satellite trackers as well as novices who are interested in knowing when they can simply look up and see satellites.<br /><br />Like PocketSat, its predecessor, PocketSat+ includes tools to predict when satellites in low-Earth orbits will pass overhead and potentially be visible. Unlike PocketSat, however, PocketSat+ can track any satellite, and can display real-time plots of multiple satellites on both Earth maps and Sky charts."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/ppcmap.gif" /><br /><br />This is currently a free preview release, so for the budding satellite trackers among you, check it out.

Just barely 2 weeks to try this out (expires on February 14). After then, you have to download another version at $25 a pop! Satellites are nice, but not worth $25 just to know where they are.

...and why do we want people knowing where satellites are? :?

Are you asking why people want to know where satellites are, or are you asking why the locations of satellites are public?

See, this is really useful 'cuz with it, you can know which countries are spying on you. :D

As an Ham radio operator this would be helpful for me to know when certain satellites are around so I know when I can use them. Other than that I guess it falls under W?BIC

Or, you could use it see which satellites are communicating with your GPS.

...and why do we want people knowing where satellites are? :?Many of these satellites are easily visible to the naked eye. A lot of people are quite surprised when they discover this fact and are quite keen on seeing them. I've had quite a crowd standing outside the pub, staring into the west, waiting for the space station to appear.

Just curious, do you use my product SATALERT for the ISS viewings?

coolio. I personally enjoy watching the ISS and looking for Iridium flashes. But right now I am using the Heavens-above avantgo channel. seems to work pretty good.

For the uninitiated: Iridium flashes are when a Iridium satelite passes over with its super-reflective antenna at the right angle to reflect the sun down to earth. Some of these can be really bright, and they look amazing.
Satellite tracking is fun, free, and educational. Try it some time. I suggest Heavens-above.com (no affiliation) for times.

A couple of folks asked for me to post here when v1.0 of PocketSat+ for PPC was ready.

Well, it is.

In response to the questions about why you would want to use it, PocketSat+ users (it's been out for some time under PalmOS) fall into 3 categories:

- Amateur Radio operators who like to bounce signals off of satellites.

- Amateur astronomers (or just skygazers) who just want to look at them. I'm in this group.

- People who have a professional interest in knowing where satellites are. These include people who want to know where to point satellite TV or phone antennae, folks who work with remote sensing satellites and people who work with GPS and need to know when a good time to take a fix would be.

There are some other, stranger, ones but those 3 cover most of the users.

You can download the PDF docs separately from the app if you just want to see what it does.
