I have resolved to play more games this year on my pocket pc. Actually being a small time developer, I want to make sure that I am purchasing programs to do my part in helping another slug make a few extra bucks each month. Plus I recently have started to learn evc to write my own game for fun. It is a nice change from evb and database access code.

I have noticed that my 568 sucks for gaming. The center button responses like an old man and clicks constantly. I assume that there are better machines for gaming, but can not find any relevant info. I always liked my original Ipaq, but the new ones have an oval button that looks like it may be worse than the one on my 568.

Anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

100 people read my pathetic post and not 1 reply. Are there no worthy Pocket PC's for gaming. Or do they all rock and I just suck at games - that's why I don't play.

Please throw me a bone...

Well, I'm using the Viewsonic V35 and have found it to be a pretty effective gaming platform. Stuff like Pocket EQ, Interstellar Flames and Argentum run just fine. D-pad is pretty good, and the response time is near-instantaneous.

Coupled with the transflective screen and low price, it has my recommendation. :)

Do all Pocket PC support 8 way motion on the D pad? My appears to have problems with the diagonal motion.

I believe most (if not all) PPCs support 8-way motion on the D-pad.

I know that the original iPAQs didn't support diagonals.

Another thing you need for gaming is support for multiple button presses, which the original iPAQ didn't have either.

I think aside from the original iPaqs, most all PPCs support 8-way DPads and multiple button presses.

To be honest though, none of the units come close to the original Casio's (E125 / EM500) when it came to game-worthy DPads and buttons.

The good news is that many games are relying more and more on stylus input for some of the more precise aspects of the game.

IMHO, pocket pc is best for game like 'everquest' which don't need a multiple button press! for fast moving games, i don't think there is a worthy pocket pc right now, except if you willing to add a joypad, like the one they selling for original ipaq at expansys, then it will be good, fell much like a game boy though....

Anything X-Scale. It also depends on your hand size and how you grip the PPC device - if your hands are large then you can look at a Toshiba device - if not then you'll want to stick to the newer iPaq line.

I also believe that all new PPC devices support multiple button pushes and 8 way d pads.

I would give serious consideration to the Dell Axim line...

Although I have heard very bad things about the Axim's d-pad. Check out the Dell forum and read some of the horror stories...
