Here's what I'm looking for, and this place is my last hope. I am trying to find a CF card that reads SmartMedia cards. I want to be able to read my digital camera memory cards on my Axim.

Thanks for any help I can get

I'm willing to bet you have an Olympus camera. I've searched for the same thing myself (I have a C4040 digicam). I was even in Japan last month looking for such an adapter. Unfortunately, I only know of one option.

Imation has a CF card reader that comes with a full set of CF adapters for SmartMedia, SD/MMC, and MemoryStick. Imation has full information on the card HERE (http://www.imation.com/en_US/product.jhtml?Id=IM_PRD334). You can probably find the product at CompUSA. It's also at Amazon (click here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006688W/qid=1043820296/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1_etk-electronics/103-6397335-9913454?v=glance&s=electronics&n=172282)).

Unfortunately, they do NOT sell those adapters separately as far as I know. So you have to buy the full kit which you may consider a bit pricey.

The CompUSA in San Jose definitely sells the Imation FlashGO. They were $50, if I recall correctly. They're also on the CompUSA Web site (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50180312) (and cheaper than Amazon).

Also, there's a USB 2.0 version available.

Hi DrewCPU,
have a look at www.mittoni.com (Australia)

http://www.mittoni.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/1238

They have a Secure Digital SD to CF CompactFlash Card Adapter Type II which allows you to fully insert the SD card into the adapter so that it may be completely enclosed within a Type II CompactFlash slot. And it only costs US$25.27!!! (Shipping seems to be reasonably priced)

They also have a Type I adapter which unfortunately for me is to long to fit into my Canon IXUS V2/PowerShot 110 camera... (I checked the specs for the camera after I ordered the Type II adapter so I had to cancel the order...)

I hope this will help you.

Ooops! Sorry!
Smart Media is not the same as SD! My fault!

Guys,

I think he wants an adapter so he can read the SM cards directly inside the Axim.

DrewCPU,

I think you might have to go for the CF->PC card adapter, then get a SmartMedia->PC card adapter. I've never seen a SmartMedia->CF adapter.

Nice catch Steven! Wow... that card is certainly LONG!!

Now what I wonder though is this is $36.92 plus tax + s/h, I might as well go to my local CompUSA go for the Imation solution instead which includes two more adapters and a card reader!!

The Imation solution we discussed above does have a SM->CF adapter (in addition to SD/MMC, MS). It also comes with a card reader that weighs in at around $50-$60 though... I'm not sure that your proposed solution would be that much cheaper than that though.

Hi there

I am waiting on a demo unit of a CF to SD, MMC, SM and Memory Stick adapter to review for Pocket PC Thoughts from http://www.semsons.com

The review should be up in the next couple of weeks (as soon as I get the demo unit)

I bought the imation FlashGO! solution, and was great. But I found that I could never use the different adapter cards in any other reader, like my girlfriends, I have a 8 in 1 solution and the adapter cards freaked out my computer when I just tried to use the smart media adapter in the compact flash slot. I also bought the Pretec smart media adapter back in my Casio 120 days, to do the same thing, and yep I got an Olympus 3040, but you gotta be careful , the one I bought only supported upto 32 mb cards.

Geez... didn't realize that SM-to-CF stuff could be such dangerous business!!
