I'm talking about a regular "non pda like" cheap cell phone, like a Sony Ericson T61LX or Nokia 5150..

I just find it annoying to enter in contacts into cell phones using stupid phone buttons, etc.

i type my contacs on my ipaq, then beamed it to my mokia via infrared, using peacemaker pro (included in ipaq cd), i think this will give you a solution for that 'anoying cellphone button' mind you, i also use cheap phone nokia 3360 whichs is free.

but the 5150 sold in the USA does not actually have IR. There appears to be IR but there is no actual port. This was the case with the 6160 devices, and I believe the 5100 series was the same.

There's also a software called fonesync that would sync contacts with the 6160/5150 series phones via a cable connection.

Most Nokia phones have a connector at the bottom that allows for programing and data transfer through a serial port on your computer called a DLR-3 Data cable.

You can pick one up here (http://www.cellphoneshop.net/fornokia5100.html).

They also have them available in USB and you can usually find free software to sync outlook with your phone, most of the time the software comes free with the cable (Mine came with the phone).

You can download it for free from here:

sorry - i found the ericcson stuff after hastily posting my reply :)

But check this out, a USB cable
http://www.expansys.us/product.asp?code=ER520M_DCU-10

Sonyericsson.com has more info on it, says faster speeds... so i assume it works better than the serial port type connection... you think?

only thing is why the heck is it $77 when the other cable is $14

It may be faster, but you can generally hook up your PPC to your Cell via the cable, with a null modem connector and a serial connector to your PPC, but you can also buy cables just for that with out there. This is good if you can use your phone as a modem or fax machine...

You will have to weigh how much you update the info on your phone to the cost of the ability to do it.

The decision is yours young padawan... choose wisely... :D
