Basically, what's the difference?

I just bought an e740 and am shopping for a memory card, but I really have no idea which kind I should buy. Anyone, advantages/disadvantages of using each for memory? Thanks!

Do a search - there's a thousand threads that cover this.

There have been numerous threads on this. Generally, when people have both available on their device, they'll use SD for memory and CF for I/O (WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, Modem, etc.). Though since I believe the Toshiba 740 has both WiFi and BlueTooth, you have more flexibility.

In terms of memory, CF is generally cheaper and faster than SD but it also takes up more power. For large memory modules, I tend to favor SD because of its decreased power consumption and b/c nearly all PPCs support SD and it's slowly becoming the standard for portable devices (ie - MP3 players).

Keep in mind that SD memory of size 256MB and higher will be at least 4x faster than 128MB and lower.

Thanks, ekkie. Sorry, I know this must be a question that's been asked numerous times, but I couldn't come up with search terms that'd find what I wanted without being so vague as to yield many many results.

Yeah, that's not an easy one to search for since the words SD and CF come up in nearly every thread and your question is certainly legit.

When I get time, I'm actually considering creating a FAQ for questions such as these.

BTW, welcome to the board!

Sorry if I sounded huffy. I guess I was venting from reading some other posts where people clearly didn't do a search 1st. Actually the e740 has a SD slot and CF type II slot, but either WiFi or Bluetooth. I think e740's sold here in the US have WiFi and European versions have Bluetooth (could be wrong on that though). Mine has WiFi only.
