Novii.tv Pocket PC TV/Movie Software

<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.novii.tv/' target='_blank'>http://www.novii.tv/</a><br /><br /></div>There's a new company stepping into the Pocket PC ring, and they look like a real contender. <a href="http://www.novii.tv/products/noviir/index.html">Novii Remote</a> is their basic PDA TV Tuner software, but most of their <a href="http://www.novii.tv/products/index.html">interesting products are still coming down the pipe.</a> This one looks the most interesting: the Novii Remote Blaster ("An SD card with enhanced IR transmitter and chip containing 7,000 IR codes").<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/nm.jpg" /> <br /><br />Of course, those of us with the SD card slot on the side of our Pocket PCs (like the Dell Axim) will have to use the software sideways in order to aim the SD blaster properly, or use a third party app to switch to landscape mode.<br /><br />Personally, I've never been tempted to even try software like this, even though I loathe having my five remote controls sitting on the couch (two of them claiming to be "universal" - bah!). But what I find intriguing about this software is the addition of TV and movie listings - that adds some nice value (if they support Canada that is). Novii will be an interesting company to watch!

Although the idea of combining my remotes to operate from my PPC and the channel selection guide is intriguing, I'm loath to let "my precious" be subjected to the treatment my remotes seem to receive. Dropped, fallen into the cracks of the sofa, sat on, misplaced, fondled by unclean fingers..oh the horror...I would be more concerned about my PPC than the show I was trying to watch. I'll settle for my RCA 4-in-1 remote and upgrade to a more high-tech dedicated remote later.

Of course, this card wouldn't work with the Axim, as it doesn't have SDIO. So no "problems" there. ;)

I have been working on a physical design similar to this ever since I found that Total Remote's transmitter module wouldn't work with the Axim. Do I now understand that the Axim is incapable of using such a device... AGAIN? Boy, would we look silly!

Please don't tell me I have to make this a CF card! :(

I think I'd prefer the remote that fits into the headset jack. Then you pick up an old ipaq 3150 (the black and white one) off ebay, and boom: Low cost learning remote. Beats the pants of the $200 sony unit.

It seems to me that the company has released the Blaster not so long ago. As a user of palm I am going to buy it as it's fairly easy now to turn a palm into a universal remote. And I heard that the maximum range with the Blaster that they observed is 75 feet.

I've already bought it. Actually, it's not only software, it includes hardware. An SD card turns your palm into a universal remote. First I thought it's the same thing as Novii Remote, but then I found that it's not. The main difference between Novii remote and Novii Remote Blaster is that it controls more than 100 000 devices. I selected the brands of my home devices from the list, and the NoviiRemote software automatically started controlling my AV system.

I can't learn the blaster, but as it's quite powerful, it's useless and I do'nt need to waste time on learning.

The Blaster doesn't contain TV listings, it will be included into Novii Remote Blaster 2 if it appears on the market.

Obviously no! I like the idea of turning the PDA into a remote anytime
anywhere. Now it's just a PDA and next moment I insert an SD and it
turns into a universal remote. Yesterday I was at my friend's and this
small thing enabled me to control THEIR home theater.

I decided to buy the Novii Blaster... :roll: And I think it's worth every penny I paid for it! You see, the Blaster contains an enormous number of build-in IR codes for most popular home entertainment equipment (100 000 according to the information on the site www.novii.tv/blaster). This makes setup a snap: I just chose the brand of equipment, and I am able to control it.

I tried this as well. I managed to change channels at the local wine-bar! :)
