Just got my e740 and I'm trying to do no frills syncing with my laptop (Win2K). It will connect and sync the first time but if I take the e740 off the craddle and them put back on it won't connect. Unplugging the craddle doesn't seem to work either. Thoughts?

Time to reboot your laptop and then try again.

No, I'm not kidding. ActiveSync truly has a mind of its own sometimes...

I agree with the other user sometime I re-boot my pc or soft-reset the ppc. This seems to work for me.

For WIN2K systems I found the following works:

Ctrl-Alt-Del
Task Manager
Processes

Do a End Processes on: wcescomm.exe and WCESMgr.exe

Then you can start Active Sync back up and turn on the e740 and all is well. Wish I was a programmer and could code something that finds the PID# numbers for those services and could kill them with a click of an icon.

Any Takers?

Use this:

ActiveSync Toggle (http://www.micrologics.co.uk/library/ast/)

From the Micrologics web site:

ActiveSync Toggle allows you to either load or unload ActiveSync from memory whilst also removing the registry key that automatically loads it upon starting Windows.

If we receive enough positive feedback we will try and develop this further, so please feel free to let us know your thoughts. We would also be grateful if you could let us know which versions of ActiveSync this works on, so we can try and include support for these older versions as well.

Thanks Steve, that's a great program to have around... I remember hearing about this in the past but never got around to downloading it or looking for it.

Yes, I use ActiveSync Toggle all of the time, it's definately a great little program. If you have ActiveSync, you absolutely have to have this app as well...

Steve

And no, I have nothing to do with Micrologics...

Oh heck! If I had a dime for every time I started up my task manager and killed "wcescomm.exe"...

...and it surely wasn't because ActiveSync was eating up system resources either!!

I have the same problem with mine. It happens frequently and always happens when the wireless is on. If you put the unit in the cradle and it doesn't sync, try pushing the power button to turn the power off to the e740, then turning it back on while it's still in the cradle. I've found it to force the unit to sync 100% of the time.
