In addition, eight new landscape today themes are included for your wide-browsing pleasure."</i><br /><br />I wonder if they did it using built-in API routines in the unit? I can't imagine any other reason why it wouldn't work with other iPaqs, let alone Pocket PCs.

I'm not sure about this working for other Pocket PCs. Other Pocket PCs have different screen drivers. One thing I've been waiting for though is real landscape support without the need for a soft reset.

As for the Today themes, I think MS should support landscape mode themes too. It loads up themes as tdywater.gif images and all that is needed is to have 2 tdywater.gif images... and if the PPC knows which orientation it uses, all it has to do is select the correct one. Of course, this will mean that Today themes will be slightly larger... but who cares... I don't think it will even break the 150KB barrier.

Warning: Totally jammed my Toshiba e310.

Screen orientation did not change and OS does not respond to stylus. Problems insists even after soft reset, looks like I have to shut down the device and reinstall everything.

So beware, really looks like it's meant only for the specified range of PDAs.

Update : regained control from my desktop computer with PocketCTRL, had to realign the stylus, that was *completely* messed up by the program.

LOL common cant you read that this is ONLY for the H545x? Please read carefully what a program does and for which device it is and then install it.

This app uses the new video chip on the 545x to change orientation which can be achived by just modifying a registry key and re-align the screen, this program does this automatically. But if you do it manually and change the registry key on your own you will need to realign the screen upon soft-reset which might be a tricky.
So DO NOT USE THIS APP except the 545x.

Hey, you gotta give a guy credit for trying. If eveyone followed "what you're supposed to do", then we'd all be living in a hunter-gatherer society. Pass the antelope!

Well done, jizmo! Continue to push the envelope! But, keep a backup just in case!

Kudos to jizmo for trying what the rest of us wanted to try but were waiting for someone else to try first!

I knew that it was meant only for H545x, but then again I thought if it didn't work, it'd be easy just to reset the device. Little did I know that the program would fiddle around with registers

Thx for the kind words.. I think I'll go now and see how liquid nitrogen reacts with e310 and if can I fix it with PocketCTRL.

If you are looking for a simple screen orientation program that is free you could also download the Pocketop drivers from the Pocketop website, it works with just about any PDA. You can check out compatability and download the drivers from Pocketop.net (http://pocketop.radiant.net/drivers.shtml).

Well if he's insane I'm right there with him...I tried it out on my 3835. Hey what else am I going to do at work? :)

Anyhoo...really flubbed up my screen. It's kinda cool though...the screen orientation is correct, but the stylus trigger points are all upside down and backwards. I have to tap the new menu to get the Start menu, etc.

I should be able to get it straightened out again, but if not, eh it needed a reload anyway...

That's what I love about the PPC...no matter how badly you mess it up, you can always go back to the beginning and start over.

I thought I was going to have to flatten my 3950 after trying this little software gem. After choosing a few different orientations and resetting, I finally got it back to right-side-up. The tough part was entering my password 8O

After that, it was just a matter or re-calibrating the screen. A little freaky for a while, but came out OK.

Hey, if you don't try, you'll never know.

This is just what i'm looking for, a free simple landscape utility. I don't have a 545x, and for some reason the pockettop driver dosen't work. When I attempt to set landscape and the device resets, the device resets itself again and it is still in portrait.

Is there any way to change/modify the registry with a reg editor to change the orentation.

Yup...always need some pioneers to push the envelope...

Mine's back to normal now too.

But the Toshiba e310 has the same MediaQ video chip like the 545x. So shouldn't it work on it too?

Well, we don't know if it's the exact same chip, with same drivers, and same API.

I don't know about drivers and API but it's exactly the same chip (almost).

The iPaq 54xx uses the MediaQ MQ-1100 chip and the Toshiba e3xx series uses the MediaQ MQ-1132. The MQ-1132 is identical to the MQ-1100 but includes an USB host controller.

Any ideas on why your program thinks that I don't have an H5455? When I run the exe program, a warning screen comes up saying, "The image file c:\My Documents\GoLandscape5400.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine.

I'm using Windows 2000 and recently upgraded from a Casio E125 to the iPAQ H5455 - AND I'M LOVING IT! I was excited to see your program, but disappointed that I couldn't get it running.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
