Sounds like a cross between Celeron and Neutrino if you ask me. ;)<br /><br />Let's hope we see products based on it soon... check <a href="http://www.intel.com/products/mobiletechnology/index.htm">this link</a> for some basic information on the processor. Notebooks, especially the smaller ones, could certainly use better <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6752">battery life</a>. Maybe this will also be the final piece of technology to help OQO or <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7064">Vulcan</a> technologies become reality.

If only one of these could be placed inside a Pocket PC....

Transmeta? Good Processors?

I don't care what you say, I'm not going to believe that little image with all of those pie charts

I really hope this helps, but everything I hear is that the LCD Screen is the big power hog. :(

Maybe these will help, but I rather see someone working on some sort of screen that will quit eating my batteries.

You are so right. We want better screens, but they eat so much power =( OLED might come to the rescue here ;)

Not to mention MTI Micro Fuel Cells  They will have a battery charging product ready for market by early 2004. It will be about twice the size of a PPC and instantly recharge batteries for mobile devices using a Methanol micro fuel cell. They have partnered with Intermec to bring us these lovely devices.

That said, I can't wait for my Centrino! :rainbowafro:

You forgot a few others:
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=6319:Transmeta's Astro faces tough Banias competition

OK the link you provided is from a known biased source that loves to spit in the face of Wintel whenever they get a chance. Also the little fact that there is next to NO info out on Transmeta’s Astro chip. While Intel has had Banias, check that, the Centrino out in the public’s eye for quite a while.
Anandtech has a nice overview of the Centrino that can be found here:
http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1702

And surprisingly theregister.com has a few kind words to say about the Centrino. This from a website that also like spitting into the faces of the Wintel world.
You can find that article here: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/3/27054.html

With that being said I’m all for competition esp when it comes to Palladium which as far as I know Transmeta has NOT signed off on which is a really REALLY REALLY good thing. If Transmeta can get something that is just as good as the Centrino or better I wish them all the best but their track record is less then stellar in the performance department. As I’ve said in other forums put your silicon where you mouth is. Until I see real world benchmarks on both I will hold off snap judgments.
