In the recent week all the buzz was of the past and of the coming new year in the tech industry. Yesturday while watching Tech Tv I heard about IBM putting out a device for a study called the Meta PAd. According to Tech Live this device runs Win XP and has a 10G hard drive. Chek out the link from Tech Live:

Will this be the replacement for what we all know and love, our prized Pocket PC. Check out the link from IBM:

IMHO, I would love to see this device debut sometime :D . I figure with all the love of portable computing why not give us a device capable of so much.

Interesting. Back in May, Antelope Computer was supposed to sell this IBM thing, http://news.com.com/2100-1001-920847.html?tag=cd_mh

Now IBM is grabbing it back? and going to show it DEMO in Feb? What's up with that?

This thing, the OQO and Tiqit (http://www.tiqit.com/) have been floating around the vapor for quite some time (in technology terms) without actually going anywhere. Shame I think. With the possible exception of screen resolution issues, I think there would be some market interest.

My concern on the resolution is that XP doesn't look all that good when you get below 800x600 (and that is marginal, IMHO). Though you can get that resolution on a 3x5 or 4x6 screen, it gets pretty tiny. Reading glasses could be a required accessory. Don't even talk about virtual resolution and scroll bars...yuuch.
