No sync, no update make Homer go crazy!

Happy Holidays all:
I seem to be having this problem periodically lately. My computer will not recognize my device and thus I cannot active sync. My 548 is fine (I am syncing with the non-USB cord now). I checked my usb's with my digital camera and and no problem. Is my 548 getting old or is there a quick fix?
Does this happen to anyone else?

I have this problem from time to time. I soft reset my 548 and boot the computer, and all is healed. A bit of a pain, but it works.
