I use www.bandwidthplace.com to test my speed

I got an all time high of 2.6 megabits per second

Usualy I get about 2.0-2.1

Sometimes it dips to 1.3...but that happened only once and a restart solved the problem

What about your connection?

I ran this test on my laptop over WiFi with a medium strength signal and got 951 kilobits per second - real-world speed of 118 KB/s. Fast enough for me - if every server could deliver 118 KB/s, the world would be a better place.

4.5 megabit on average, after tweaking. :D (2.4 before tweaks) Rarely drops below 4 now.

For a basic but quick and worthwhile tweak, try the correct patch from Speedguide. http://www.speedguide.net/Cable_modems/cable_patches.shtml

Well, it's not just flip a switch and it's done. It involves registery editing, making sure there's no bottlenecks, etc. And it makes a huge deal of difference where you're located and how much traffic there is. Try the speedguide patches above as step 1. Most windows machines are set up for dial up modems, and as such aren't pulling anywhere near what they could from the ISP.

1.6 per second, at 15:31 - Richmond Va. Sometimes it's better sometimes it's worse, still better than dial-up. XP - No Patch

1.5 megabits here in richmond. That's what I get on the regular so i'm happy with it. I ran the test on my parents cable modem in New Jersey and they got 4.7 megabits down  and they say that people in the city have slower speeds...yeah right. My parents a right in the city and they get that speed all the time, only problem is their cable co. blocks all the good ports

For a change of pace, I tested my dialup connection:

Your raw speed was 22606.42 bits per second
As you can see, my connection is approx. 22 KB/s. Pity me. This is all I have.

Interesting, my first speed was 2.4. I utilized Riraths patch and the speed went to 3.0. ran it again and it went to 3.6. Meanwhile, I also tested at www.Toast.Net and had 2.2 prior to patch and WWW.DSLReports. com get 1.971 b4 patch. After patch, Toast was 2.1 and Dslreports was 1.89.

Before patch 1.0, after 1.6.

The before results actually surprised me, I'm usually only on late at night/early morning (that darn work thing gets in the way) and I get almost twice that. I didn't think the results would be that much lower in the mid morning with all the business users closed as well.
