Well im getting my Toshiba e740 TOMORROW :D anyways since it ahs 802.11b at home ill be watning to go on AIM. However on the Aim site it says that Aim 2.0 is not supported by Pocket PC 2002. I was wondedring if anyone has Aim 2.0 runnning fine on their Pocket PC 2002?

Yes, it works perfectly for me. Unfortunately, on top of the weird PPC 2000 warning, AOL charges for the product; the exact same thing used to be free. Do a search on this and other forums for places where you might be able to download it if you don't already have it.

How about the AOL 2.0 browser working with PC2002? I took a chance and ponied up the $20 for it, even though the red letters warning about not working with 2002 (mostly because several people posted at the Handago page that they use it without problems on 2002 PDA's).

I loaded it to my 3955, launched it and signed-on without a hitch via CF Ethernet DSL. Then I switched to Internet Explorer and no longer could connect (no problems before installing AOL).

Then I tried Activesyncing, and got a fatal error message on 3955, and no longer could get synced. Hard reset to factory settings, re-installed Activesync, loaded only AOL and couldn't connect and got same fatal error failure Activesyncing.

Hard reset to a iPaq back-up file before loaded with AOL, re-re-installed Activesync and was back to normal.

I did notice that AOL needs a soft-reset, and both times the 3955 hung up on the first reset, and worked on the second attempt, aand then appeared normal otherwise.

Should I just give up or am I missing sometime to get a work-around for this? Anyone successfully using AOL 2.0 browser with 2002?

Thanks!

The AOL WinCE client does not work properly on PPC2002. I recommend emailing AOL, dropping them comments, etc - the business side is unsure of the demand paying for the development over to PPC2002.

Gremmie,

Any tips for avoiding my experience described above? Does launching IE play nice with AOL present?

Did you notice the frozen reset screen (waited 10 minutes) that needed second soft reset to complete?

Any problems with fatal errors connecting to ActiveSync ever occur?

Should I just try again, I REALLY want AOL service on my 3955?!

Thanks!

You're referring to the AOL client, not the AIM client, right? I've heard about endless trouble with the former, but no problems with the latter.

You are referring to the AIM client, no? The AOL Client for Pocket PC 2000 does not run properly, and may indeed cause lock-ups requiring a full hard reset of the Pocket PC 2002 unit.

AOL Instant Messenger Version 2.0 Build 2.0.13..
runs fine, has worked on my 37xx iPAQ, 38xx, and the current e740. I think I remember running into a problem installing it awhile back but a reinstall fixed it.

Right, but bmhome1 is trying to run the full-blown AOL client, which gives AOL commercial account-holders access. :)

bmhome1, I don't think you're going to have much luck with it. Email AOL; the more they hear, hopefully they'll think about it. AOL tends to be pretty stubborn with these kinds of things though... have you considered switching ISP's?

Ah, I thought he was referring to AIM. --I read the first post and skim though, some of it I assume too much :)

Janak,

Thanks, I'll let AOL know. It's odd how well it did work until Activesyncing.

I've had the email address a long time and getting on-line when travelling odd places makes AOL still useful. I still don't understand how some of the posters at the Handago purchase page claim to be able to use it with 2002.

I may try again, and be ready to hard reset and Activesync from a mirror drive for digging deeper.
