Posts in the thread range from saying this fixes the Today Screen lockups and other software glitches on the T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone to this isn't for the Pocket PC Phone at all but for Pocket PCs and laptops to connect to T-Mobile's network through either a cell phone or using their PCMCIA card. :? I downloaded it but there is no readme file.

Source: microsoft.public.pocketpc.phone_edition newsgroup

Do not waste your time, this is not for Phone Edition's, but for PPC's and laptops that connect to an external mobile phone to dial the Internet. Since the phone in the Phone Edition is only seen by the device internally it will not work. I have no clue why it ended up as a download on the PPC PE page?!?!? :? :? :?

Ed,

From what I was just told by T-Mobile; it's supposed to address some issues with the sound on the device as well as the infamous lock-ups that is caused by the T-Mobile "Today Screen" plug-in. That's it.

The word we have gotten so far over a Passion is that this download isn't even for the Phone Edition. It is for Pocket PCs to connect to laptops and manage the internet connections between a normal PPC, and a laptop.

Ed,

It's true. Read the forum here on Thoughts: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6123

The gentlemen at T-Mobile in their "Data Wireless Group" must be clueless as to what the other departments are doing. I've loaded this "update" on my PocketPC already and it just searches for infrared devices to connect to the internet :!: if you can believe that. Why they would make a file that clearly states in the setup file "For Pocket PC" is beyond my scope of knowledge. But, for giggles I installed it anyway and it's a dud. No update, no fix, nothing but vaporware as far as a "fix" is concerned in my opinion.

We've all heard of vaporware, but this falls into that even more frustrating category of mysteryware 8) Unfortunetely, not the first software / update to fall into this category, but apparently a doosey none the less.

The Internet Manager Software is not for the T-Mobile - it's for Laptop PC's with WWAN Phone Cards, or Pocket PC's with PC Card slots or sleeves. Not for the PPCPE.

However - just tonight, the ROM Update for the T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition is posted to the T-Mobile web site. Log in to the site and go to products/handhelds and select the PPCPE. There's a new menu selection for software updates. This is what you REALLY want.

Good luck, have fun.

You need to do a hard reset during the process, so be sure to do a backup first. It will allow you to do a restore. Plug your USB straight into your desktop....yada...yada

Instant restoring from a previous ROM's backup a bad idea?
You might overwrite things that have been updated.
Many problems arise from restoring previous ROM backups.
