I think these should only be worn with the geek hat! You know the one with earflap to protect your head from the high consentration of microwaves coming off you cellphone. I would suggest a Scot eVest but that would look a little to mainsteam

After you get your XXX kicked for looking like a dork by everyone in your office, a little glare would be the least of your problems. And $100! what a rip.

REDUCE GLARE - INCREASE STARE! I was all set to buy one to go with every outfit until I saw the price. When I first glanced I thought it was $1.00. Boy, I could a pair of Foster Grants for less.

All depends how cool you guy wanna look to pick up girlsl. You could drop some of those corny lines.

This is too much, I tell ya. Between the glare reduction "specs," the geek hat, the gadget bandolier... some folks in marketing are trying to make sure that geek guys never have sex again. (Geek gals would never wear such stuff, BTW.)

If geek guys are having sex with anyone other than geek gals, they are going to lose their geek credentials fast. Therefore these glasses are a boon to geeks everywhere.

One doctor has come up with, shall we say, an innovative technology to reduce glare: the SUMACKE.

When I first read this, I misread it as "SHMUCK". Heh.

There's not enough geek gals to go around, I think. You're condemming male geeks everywhere to a celibate lifestyle...

First, $100 seems an awful lot for something that children often make with crey paper. Of course, they call them "scuba goggles" but hey, you get the point.

Second, there is a very well known solution for glare. It's called polarized glass. Pick yourself up a pair of really lightly tinted polarized specs for $20. You'll look a lot cooler and feel a lot smarter.

BTW, I don't believe that these are a joke. I believe these are a bet.

"I bet I can get people to pay $100 to look like a moron." :-)

What I'm wondering is how they got a patent for something thats been around for some time. Long ago, anyone that spent a lot of time in the snow/desert used a similar set of eyewear that used slits to cut the glare.

Why do you think this is so funny, this angle you're adding? I mean, sure, the "glare reducers" themselves are a ridiculous hoot, but given your earlier comment about gays and now the rainbow pic, one has to wonder why anyone would spend so much time betraying what appears to be intolerance (or perhaps just ignorance). I thought there was enough of that in the thread on the "married/not married" poll earlier today. Sheesh.

True - perhaps this is bad timing. I frequently think that politically incorrect things are funny, though (including those directed towards myself of course). No doubt many will see that as a fault in me. But when it's not a joke, I do try my best to be tolerant.

I'm sure I'm just fanning the flames here, but since when did the rainbow become completely co-opted by gays? They didn't invent it, they didn't design it, they just borrowed it. Symbols are fine, but to assume that every time you see a rainbow is has deep political or social resonance is just silly. :? When I saw the picture I just thought it was a funny guy with a rainbow on his face - it never occurred to me it was a "slam" of any kind.

See what I mean about political correctness destroying everything it touches? Even the simplest things can be taken as offensive.

I agree - this is starting to suck big time, and I don't like it. 8O

It would seem that whenever we stray from technology, we get into trouble.

If someone posts something truly offensive, and not something that requires "politically correct interpretation", we'll delete it - you can count on it. The worst thing people can do is respond to it and start a discussion - that makes it much harder for us to moderate. That's exactly what I did of course...

Jason, there was an earlier post by Rirath, now edited twice. Before it became what I'm quoting below, he specifically mentioned "gays" and "rainbows" - it's not something I made up or tossed into the thread to start a flame. Here's the quote as it stands now (again, edited twice since first posted):
It's shaped like a rainbow and it's "coming out" in purple. :?

As for political correctness.... this is your site. I'm a big fan of Pocket PC Thoughts. I don't post much, but I do visit often. There are a lot of talented witty folks who do post here, and I learn a lot from them and from you. However, I am surprised by such a knee-jerk reaction against... against... heck, being just a little aware of our differences without resorting to being offensive. Self-deprecating humor is one thing; being plain offensive towards another group of people, that's just uncalled for and I can't imagine that you would defend that kind of behavior if you were aware of it as such. My apologies for spoiling the "fun."

Yes, and I toned it down long before these posts to a subtle joke as it was ment to be, I said nothing offensive about anyone. It's reasons like this I've all but stopped posting here, you guys are just too uptight for your own good. It was a 5 minute joke that I myself thought was a good chuckle. For the record, my original post was: "It looks FAR less geek, and far more gay to me. I mean, it's shaped like a rainbow and it's "coming out" in purple." I figured someone somewhere would get offened, so I edited it. This is getting just plain ridiculous.

And Willa, for the record: I'm not intolerant as you seem to think. What people do in their private lives is their own business. It was a simple joke. 20 posts bashing geeks = a-ok. 2 posts with subtle humor = ingnorance. :? The only thing I apologize for is I should have linked to the image, rather than post.

I think someone here needs to take some prozac. This is way to serious for something I found funny.

This reminds me of those parents that think the tv is a true daycare and the tv stations should edit all there content, just cause they are too uninformed of what there kids do and watch.

Almost everyone here is an adult, if you do not like something just overlook it. Use commonsense before you pounce on someone cause they made a joke. I found nothing offensive to it and I do not think most of the users did here and if they did they OVERLOOKED it.

I know this is fanning the flames but people get so bent out of shape for any little thing, and it kills not only the topic, mood, and the relaxed atmosphere of the place but makes people actually rethink is it worth posting something here cause I might get pounced and ripped apart cause I wanted to make a comical funny.

My 0.02 here.

This being a wonderful device! I have been testing it since the early prototypes in 1994, right the final alpha and beta testing of 2001. This is not a device any ordinary child can make as one reader liked to implicate. Rather, it is a futuristic hi design piece. I have been in the privy to some of its secrets but cannot reveal them. Let's just say, that the material looks simple, but I have it on good word, it is the exact same type as used in the clothes on Star Trek, both original, TNG, Voyager, but maybe not invented yet in the new one.
Since using it, I have experienced relief from chronic fatigue, hernia relief, fibromyalgia, and totla environmental sensitivity.
In addition, my virility has 'shot' way up! This I think would be something we could all agree would be good, whether straight or gay!
As a great man said once, People, why can't all we get along!

How is that any different? It's not self deprecating as I assume you are not a geek guy.

Rirath said he meant it as a subtle joke. I'm pretty sure you wrote the above as a subtle joke. So when do jokes cross the line to being offensive?

To take this in perspective, I'll introduce the following scenarios:
Guy gets kicked in the nuts (ala Austin Powers 2): Funny? Not funny?
Prison Rape: Funny? Not Funny?
Geeks being made fun of because they're clumsy and can't find girlfriends: Funny? Not Funny?
Fat woman being made fun of, because she is fat: Funny? Not funny?
Fat man being made fun of, because he is fat: Funny? Not funny?

I'm not taking offensive at anything, I'd really like to know.

Well first off let's get it right. I believe that as for Austin Powers he didn't get kicked in the nuts. It was a falling Meteor that got him in the balls. Balls is funnier then nuts. And, it IS funny especially when he grabs them and falls over. :-)

I was talking about the end of AP2 when Austin's love interest kicked Fat Bastard in the nuts. Then Austin says "I'm sorry, but you just shouldn't do that to a guy" or something like that.
