I'm not going to double check what I am about to say so please correct me if I am wrong...European GSM/GPRS uses different frequencies than American GSM/GPRS so you'll have to go with the American flavor.

You are right they are two different frequencies, so it will not work.
DAMN!

The irony is that the US PPC PE is 900/1900, so it will work in Europe (although, with limited networks), while the European is 900/1800, so it won't work here at all.

Why, oh why, can't cell phone manufacturers standardize on tri-band (or, preferably, quad-band: GSM 850/900/1800/1900)? Why fragment the market?

Hmm... sounds like I need some of that too. :)

This is the reason I carry a T68 around - no thinking - and Bluetooth, while less convenient than a PPCPE, is still a workable solution. I can't wait to get a 5450 with non-resetting Bluetooth, though...

and the even further irony is that the T-Mobile US version is 900/1900Mhz, but the T-Mobile UK network is 1800MHz!

pretty bloody silly if you ask me! oh, for a tri band. glad i have a t39 too.
