<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.pocketpctechs.com/ws.asp' target='_blank'>http://www.pocketpctechs.com/ws.asp</a><br /><br /></div>Just ordered a shiney Dell Axim X5? Want to protect its screen? Check out WriteShields from PPC Techs. I'm generally not a big fan of screen protectors, but of all the ones I've tried, WriteShields are the best compromise between protection and viewing quality.<br /><br />"We have received many, many Pocket PCs with significant marring and/or scratches on the touchscreen. We are constantly asked if there is a way to remove the scratches. The only way to remove the scratches is by replacing the touchscreen layer itself at a cost of $100 or more. Most users refuse to use a screen protector since protectors do not feel smooth like the touch screen and always, always have bubbles underneath them. Standard Static-Cling protectors will last a month and then have to be replaced."

My experience with screen protectors is much more positive. I bought screen protectors for my e310 from the Toshiba website (along with an extra sync cord and other goodies). There were bubbles under it right after I put it on, but they settled out or drained away after a day or so. And I've been using the same protector for 4 months.

I, like many others, am not fond of Screen Protectors but the thought of damaging the screen forces me to use one. I think screens have improved since my HP Jornada 548. That one has marks from game playing all over it.

When I got my T-Mobile I knew I would protect it from Day 1 because of putting the unit next to my face to talk on the phone. As it is, my earring has disconnected or dialed some unkown number until I became aware.

I didn't want to spend $15 bucks for a pack of 12 when I felt I only needed one. I'll pass this on to those interested. I purchased a pack of 3M ID Card Protectors. Be sure it has Summit University on the package I got 10 for $1.49. Yeah, call me cheap, but they work!

Now here's what I've been able to do when I got bubbles. I ripped it off (I had 9 more left, remember?) The sticky residue can be cleaned off with Isopropyl Alcohol. Then put another on and be more careful not to get bubbles in the first place.

Hint I learned somewhere, long time ago, that alcohol is the best thing to clean electronic appliances. I clean my phones, CPU, printer, you name it with alcohol. Hope I saved you guys some money. Buy a more expensive gift for your loved ones!

I use this brand on both my iPAQs 3835, 3850, and Toshiba e550G. I have not found a better protector. They are clear and very smooth to use when taking noted in a meeting, playing a game, watching a movie, or reading a book. I am very impressed with how easy they are to apply to the screen and also clean. The ones you get in the stores will never compare.

Monty, I couldn't find this item under "I" on the list. From the image that I saw on the link you sent, there is a minor difference. The image showed the number LS851 The one I have has LS851-10on the package. Remember I said be sure it has Summit University on the package.

I did a search on the 3M site. This one is not listed. I got theses at Target if you have one near you. Otherwise, go to any photo laminating or school supply section in a store near you.

I would not recomend you to use the ones above, I use that product at work, for my employees ID cards and the results are permanents, you would have a hard time to remove them.

The WriteShields are a very good value. I bought a pack of three months ago and I'm still using the firts one. Highly recomended!!!

This seems kind of like a lot of cash for screen protectors. Is the plastic hard and ridged?

I've always used screen protectors but am hesitant to spend $30 for three of them

Are they actually "released"? It looks like they're just taking pre-orders...

You mean you use the 3M product or another product? I think 3M products can be found in just about any local department store.

"you would have a hard time to remove them. "

Guess you didn't read where I said the sticky residue can be cleaned off with alcohol. If you attached these to photos I don't doubt that it was permanent since the photos are of paper, not so the screen.

I had the same positive experience with Toshiba's screen protectors. I ordered the Axim and I'm hoping the 11 Toshiba screen protectors I have left will fit the screen well. Has anyone who's received the Axim tried Toshiba's screen protectors. And if so, how do they fit :?:

Ed, I know you're a FITALY user like myself... my biggest gripe from screen protectors is the screen sensitivity, particularly with FITALY...

You don't have that issue at all?

I learned about screen protectors the hard way, by scratching up the screen on my Palm Vx years ago. When I got my first PocketPC, I immediately got screen protectors my Jornada 548. When put in my order for my Dell Axim, I made sure to include screen protectors. $30 may seem like a lot for a couple of screen protectors, but if they do the job, they are well worth it! Jason, thanks for letting us know about this source for screen protectors. I'll compare them to the ones I get from Dell.

No, not really. With the screen protector off, it is only slightly more accurate. Definitely worth it putting the screen protector on. My protector has 12 fuzzy dots where I have worn out the middle key pattern on Fitaly. :) Better on the protector than my screen.

I really wonder why these things are that bloody expensive. I got a box of 5 pieces for just $12 from Casio when I had my E-125. And they were almost as hard as diamond, one piece would last you 6 months.

And to clean the screen a good glasses cleaner is good enough.

But I'm really shocked to find here that 5 pieces costs you $50 !!!!

I'm positive they highly inflate the price knowing people will get them instead of having to spend hundreds to replace the digitizer.
