Somehow I don't think so, but you never know...

Not the 5600 series. Look at the black bar and positioning of the Bluetooth light. No, definitely a 38/3900 series with some kind of attacment (perhaps in the way the SS5NA attaches...)

While at a conference in California 2 weeks ago, a HP rep said the next generation of Ipaqs would be available in February 2003...but I don't think they will look like the 3900 or 3800 series... :D

As I read, I'm Korean, it's the personally modified iPAQ. Kwang-yul, a enthusiastic iPAQ fan, shrink the battery from 1400mAh to 690mAh and squeeze CDMA module inside of iPAQ. You know, in order to use phone, we need expansion pack usually, which is so heavy and clumsy. Therefore, Kwang-yul put phone module inside of iPAQ sacrificing battery life. Author mentioned that if user have a car charger, the shorten battery life is not that big problem.

Even without reading Korean, you can spot the letters "CDMA" appearing regularly on the page. I tried running it through Altavista's translator, but the results are gibberish.

See the webpage. Its not an attachment, its an internal modification of some sort. I have opened my ipaq and I can tell you... there is NEARLY no space in there for an extra electronic board like this would need (at the least).

So for now... I suspect a joke.

If this guy sold this mod to the US market at a reasonable price (if this is true), he could earn quite a bit! But still... 38xx are old now, with 56xx on the horizon...

Now, I would love a 54xx with bt and wifi + gprs, that would be nice!!

Wow. People, please see the definition of hacker. This guy is one. Way to go!

But, as I said before, there simply is not enough space to put this is... now you know where he got the space from...

Looks to be a CDMA phone to me...but the coolest thing I saw on this site is the drilled hole to create a carrying strap for the Ipaq. I wonder what that does to keeping dust out of the screen. Maybe a screw in bolt with a loop on top sealed with epoxy would be a better idea.

Anyone cracked open a 39XX? Is there a sealant around it inside? :?:

For those interested in cracking/hacking take a look at http://www.pdainternalbattery.com/ The point is each battery page has a 'how to replace' link that shows how to open the PDA.

It is personal modification of CDMA pack and put it into IPAQ3900 series.
He done it with 3650 series before, and this is his third modification.
There are about 3-4 CDMA Packs for IPAQ in Korea.
He took out the CDMA part from one of the Powerkit and put it into 3900.
Well, We know that we could take out CF memory PCB board and put in to slim slider kit. I guess process is similar for CDMA PCB board.
Because of the space limitation, he replaced with slimmer battery.
As you can see on the picture, there are holes on side and top that was drilled manually for mic and handsfree earphone jack.
Also there are pictures showing comparison of thickness with other CDMA power pack.

He is working for PDA hardware modification company.
He also made differend kinds of modification for IPAQ like remote control for Windows Media Player(Just like wired remote control for Walkman. Actually he modified the remote control from Walkman.) and dual battery expansion Pack, etc.

This is the actual CDMA pcb baord for the modification.
http://www.metalpda.co.kr/bbs/view.php?id=hardware&no=4
It dosen't state whether he took out from CDMA Pack or designed by himself.
By thw way, that website contains many different modification for PDA.
Problem is everything is in Korean.

Well, it is not a perfect translation.
Hope you can get an idea what can be done with PDA.. :D

I am living in Japan and as well we got something quite nice, which can change you PDA (PPC or CLIE NX) into a 3G Mobile Phone

It is a PHS CF card with a speed of 128 Kbps and Unlimited access to the Internet :D plus also the possibility to Use it as Mobile phone on the PPC.
This really cool I got an 3970 and using it like a Phone and surfing in the street a 128 Kbps really kick an Ass.
For exemple I test a download of the the Soft Called Metro (2.4Mo) on my Ipaq with a weak transmission around 50 to 70% it only takes 3.48 Minutes
I made a test and took some videos if you want please follow this Link

Sorry I am French so the video and comments will be in French but ;)

I would try something like that if I was able to get all the parts and instructions.
