It seems Dell is now selling the Axim X5 Pocket PC through Amazon. No stock or order links yet, but the product pages are up. So, keep these affiliate links handy to order your Axim X5 300MHz or Axim X5 400MHz Pocket PCs. :D

The 17" and 19" monitors from Dell on Amazon's site are availbe both new and used - used coming from customers selling/auctioning back through Amazon. They would clearly spell out used/refurbished, and Dell has an arm that sells refurbished product through eBay auctions.

Hmmm. I have a sick feeling that folks who order via Amazon will receive their Axims before those of us who ordered early and directly from Dell. Unlikely, I know, but this waiting breeds strange thoughts...

Do you know if you get the rebates if you order from Amazon? I can get Amazon US to ship to the UK, but Dell US won't - SO - I might consider getting an Axim from the US..........

Why Dell sell thru other sites anyway?

Amazon still shows "This item is not stocked or has been discontinued." I guess that people will not be getting them in a hurry then.

Why Dell sell thru other sites anyway?

My guess would be because they (A) want to make a big impression on the PDA market and (B) are finding that people not obsessed over the PDA market (like say, people other than us) don't think of Dell for their PDA needs.

I've seen a lot of studies that said, as brief as it was, that had Dell not sold computers through Circuity City, PC Club, etc... that they would not be as sucessful as they are today.

Sort of a bait and switch, buy your first PDA through Amazon, be happy with it, then go to get an upgrade and find you now have to buy it through Dell :D

I'm betting Amazon never sells them new. I bet they just add new products to their database so that they are there when sellers in Z-shop and auctions want to sell them.

They sell dell monitors new, why not the Axim?

SImply another Dell experiment in distribution. :)

Amazon does not sell new dell monitors. Search Dell under monitors and it will list two monitors.

One is not available, and the other is only available from outside sellers. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005MO2M/qid=1039229079/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-4178440-4142216?v=glance&s=electronics

Amazon has products in their database that they never sold. This is to facilitate outside sellers having them in their inventory. Quick example. The original nintendo system was discontinued before Amazon sold electronics. Yet they still have them listed. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/videogames/B00004SVYQ/103-4178440-4142216 The listing looks much like the dell monitor listing.

Wether they sell used or new it doesn't matter as this is a good strategy for Dell. Even if they sell only used, people will become aware of the existance of the Axim and go to their site to order. Good for sales boost, which will be good for Dell's confidence in their PDA lineup, which will be good for us because they will work on developing better, yummier things

I saw the link on Amazon as well, although when I clicked it I got an "item no longer available" message or something like that. I agree that they are just setting up a secondary market for the Axim. I have never heard of Dell selling first line merchandise via any site but their own, only refurbs and useds.
