When I started writing this post, the number of downloads was 42, and as I finish it is 63. That's more than one download per minute! Given that there is no free trial version :? , I can literally see the queue lining up to buy! It would be very interesting to hear from you who have bought the game! Is the single player limitation "show stopping" or is the game still fun to play? Worth $19.99? Tell us!<br /><br />"EverQuest for the Pocket PC -- Episode 1 You're in our world now... on the Pocket PC! Something is amiss on the outskirts of Freeport. The undead are wandering through the Commonlands and rumors of a powerful necromancer raising an army of skeletons and zombies fill the air. Can you save the city from this looming peril?"<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/everquest_02.jpg" />

Someone help me out here. I have never played Everquest on the PC - I just don't have time for big games like that. :( I want something for the Pocket PC that is as much adventure (or more) than action. I don't want a hack-em-up game. Given there is no trial available, I'll have to rely on those that have purchased it. On a scale of 1 to 10 (Doom is 1, Myst is 10) where does Everquest fall?

Could this be an indicator that Sony is going to dumb Palm OS and base their next Clies on PPC instead?

I mean why didn't they made the game for the Palm Os instead if they do Palm OS handhelds (and by the way their OS 5 clie can handle such advanced games as this).

I bought it last night, but after installing it on my 3800 series iPAQ, it will not accept the registration key.

Anyone else have a prob?

No, I don't think so. Sony just has independent business units. The music division puts copy protection on CDs and this causes trouble for the consumer device group wher customers can't rip audio data into their MP3 players...

Yeah, I wouldn't read much into this. MS makes an sync conduit for Entourage for Palm units on Macs but not Pocket PCs.

It's' working great on my T-Mobile Pocket PC phone. I played a lot of Everquest way back when, and this is a very different game. It shares Everquest's setting and that's about it. It plays like a slower paced Diablo, and I'm quite enjoying it!

Hehehe.. Wow this game is soooo cool! If you play everquest it's even better. It uses many of the same sounds, the laughing skellies, the "DING!". There are ovens and potery wheels around the town, you can't use them but nice touch. There is even an arena where you can kill a bear and get 25 gold.
No, it is not Everquest for the pc. Totally different game, but a very fun game based on the Everquest world. I don't believe I saw it mentoned anywhere but you can create up to 4 seperate characters.
Other than the cool EQ factor, this is probably one of the best playing Pocket PC games I've tried. Runs great on my e740.
So, if you like any kind of RPG game or love EQ you NEED this game. ;)

It was well worth $19.99.

If any one cares I started a Druid. You have summon wolf pet, thorns, SOW, minor heal, cure disease, resist disease, burn, and an armor buff. So I would guess that the rest or the characters have abilities and spells strait from the real EQ.

Go on, get it. You know you want to. ;)

So, definitely more thought oriented and not so much action? Cool. 8)

Yeah, it was nice. You can memorize you spells that armor you and up your speed and resistances. Then you can switch to your attack spells or healing. You can have 4 spells or items in the little bar to the side. There is a target button that cycles through the near targets and an attack button that makes your character use his/her wepon automatically. You don't have to worry about swinging which gives you time to cast your spells. Then you can loot the corpse and sell or use the stuff you get. You can buy new clothes and wepons. At certain levels you get points to increase your spells and abilities.
I am only level 2 right now so i am not sure how envolved the quests are. Right now I am supposed to kill all the dark elf skeletons and bring "anything interesting I find" to this guy in town.

I have lots of cool games from my Pocket PC but I only play them for a few minutes every once in a while then I get bored with it.
This game lookes as it will definetly hold my attention for some time.

It is what i have wanted for some time. Most PPC games you play until you die then start over. Like Super Mario Bros. With a PPC you usually don't have lots of time in one setting to play a game. Playing smails between meetings or what ever. You can only get so far in 5 minutes then you have to quit and start over.
With EQPPC you can play when you like as long as you like and have actually made some progress in the game.

Needless to say I am very happy with this game not only because I like Everquest but mostly because of how well it works with the PPC lifestyle, I can actually make progress in the game, and maybe have to actually thing of a play strategy to survive instead of just point and click.

Seems like there is a bunch of games coming out for PPC that are fantasy/adventure/RPG type games. I was wondering if anyone has played any of the other games that have already come out and what they think. There was also that Hyperspace Delivery Boy game from Monkeystone (I sure expected a lot from that group, I haven't seen the payoff yet). Has anyone played that all they way through?

For the most part I just play old NES games or Snails on my 3955, but I would like to have a more "epic" experience on my iPAQ. Any suggestions are welcome.

"single-player limitation"

Meh.. the fact is the market is not big enough for any full-scale multiplayer games, and this game was single-player from day one. I don't see how this is a limitation, it just makes the game look bad, when it's actually awesome.

I am exactly the same way. NES, Atari, and Snails.
I really wanted something a little more worth my time. A game where I could actually accomplish something. Something more "epic". (good word)

I tried Solskia along time ago. It was very diablo style but the developer quit.

There were a few others like that. Not that they weren't great games but $ony is backing this one. I would hope for a bit more support and future developement than with some of the others.

Yes, it is correct. MS want every MAC bundle a palm in the future. In the next few years, the only way to try palm is Apple store and the only way to buy a palm is buying a MAC.

How is the key scheme implemented? I always carry my iPAQ 3970 and Pocket PC Phone Edition... Is it possible to install on two devices?

When I bought it there was a box that I had to fill in called Device Owner Name. They required you to enter whatever name was in the owner info of the device, which I have never been asked for before by Handango. The email I got had a 5 digit code to unlock the full version. I assume the code is generated based on your owner name. If that is the case you should be able to install it on any device you want as long as the owner name is the same. Not sure if it is case sensitive or anything.

not sure what the licensing says in that regard, but seems to key off of your OWNER name that you put in the device.

There's a separat topic on this on the Everquest board http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/eqpocket/Forum1/HTML/000025.html titled "A message from Handango". Contains instructions for what to do to sort out the problem with the registration key.

Hope that helps.

P.S. Haven't bought the game yet since I've reached my "game quota" for this month. But... December is just around the corner...

Right. Found another "fix" on the same board.

"If you typed your name in all lower case letters (john doe) when you bought the game from Handango.com, and it is shown as (John Doe) with caps on the Owner information screen, you can change the name to all lower case letters on the Owner Info screen and the code that handango gave you should work. They just have to match perfectly"

sorry to be harsh, I own a PocketPC and my next PDA will still be PocketPC

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN LATEST CLII???

THEY ARE FANTASTIC!!!

WHY ON EARTH would Sony dump PalmOS (5)???

WHY destroy the base on which they built?

COME ON PEOPLE!

NX70 must be the best PDA hardware BY FAR... maybe Zaurus is next and THEN 5450...

PocketPC hardware vendors must REALLY get back to drawing board...

Forget that. Handango should work to get the user a new code. I have about 10 apps that look to the owner info for validity. Fortunately mine works.

This app rocks. Two Thumbs UP!!!! :way to go: :way to go:

If only I could cast a spell of "battery longevity" on my iPAQ. :( Games like this and SimCity 2000 really suck the juice out of it. Must be the constant taps on the screen.

Side question this fire beetle eye I've found. Not worth much - about 8 gold pieces. Any use or should I just sell it.

I agree...my battery drops very quickly. But, the game is really good. :D

I wonder if there is anyplace on the web to explain the use of the Fire Beetle Eyes and Bone Chips. I had about 7 bone chips at one point, but sold them to free up my backpack.

If anyone finds that place let us know.

In the real game the fire beetle eye is totally useless except to LOW level characters. It will provide a pulsing light source, which is good because not all races can see in the dark. However I have not noticed that the night and day change in this game so it may not be an issue. Also the fire beetle eye is used to make edible goo when combined with a bat wing in an oven. But there are no trade skills in this game so that really isn't an issue either.
The bone chips are used in quests to make people like you better and to get money and experience. Since there is no faction in this game and you pretty much have a set "path" to follow i doubt the bone chips will be used for anything either. Bone chips may also be used as components for spells by classes that are not in this game. Again, not an issue.

I would guess that if you are ever required to have bone chips or a fire beetle eye for part of the game you will be given the opportunity to acquire them at that point. This game, so far, is very linear. You must do one thing before you can do another.

Bone chips are useless - except they are worth 1 gold piece if you sell them. You do need the fire beetle eye later in the game, so when you get one, keep it. Sell the rest - good for 4-8 gold pieces I think.
