I know that this is a hot topic right now however I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to get 8.5 working/installed on a 3650 Ipaq?

I cant even try the update over again - it just says the file is no longer valid and will be deleted.

Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't tested it, and for that matter I'm not 100% sure of the version, but here's the steps I took:

1) Install EUU3

2) dig out the PPC2002 Upgrade CD that you bought from Compaq

3) on that CD there is an install for WMP, install that.

4) on Microsoft's site, there is a upgrade that takes you to the latest WMP for PPC.

That's the steps I took. But I haven't tested it to see it it works. I didn't get any errors.

Most 3650's have 16 MB ROMs, so the "optional" stuff like WMP needs to be installed into ROM. Problem is, Microsoft hasn't released WMP 8.5 in a RAM install format...and until they do, you're out of luck.

How about somebody post the media player 8.5 .exe and I'll replace my media player 8 .exe and see if that works? what's the worst that could happen, it crashes? I'll replace it with my old one... sound like a plan? That's all I want from the new update, throw the new bliss theme in too, just for fun.

I tried to install the EUU3 update on my Ipaq 3650, wasn't a hastle, but in the end there's no visible change, all the fun stuff wasn't installed.

Thanks for the options everyone. Hank if you manage to get your 3650 updated let me know.

I will just have to wait for 8.5 to be released on the web by MSFT I guess.
