Anyone know if/when Acer plans to sell the n20w in the US? Any idea what the price will be? Is anyone using this model, and if so, what is the quality like?

Thanks!

I like their backpack concept and being able to sync with it on as well. Couldn't find anything solid on a release date. I figure that this isn't like some better cell phones, this would likely get to the States.

Specs: http://www.acer.com.vn/products/n20w/n20w.htm

Acer announced two new Pocket PC devices, both using the new XScale chip. One device, the n20, is a competitor for the Toshiba e310 while the Acer n20w is a wireless competitor which will rival Toshiba's e740. Both products will be available when XScale starts shipping. Speaking of XScale, Intel has put more delays on the product. It is likely that it will not be included in very many devices until later June or even early July. Intel still hopes to fix some bugs that are plaguing its release.

I'm not sure what happened to this unit. But I'm guessing it's out in the far east. I like to scan through www.pdaordie.com (what a typical japanese name :)) to see if I can detect any developments.

I saw this graph there the other day with the acer on it.

So the graphics and memory are slower than Fujitsu and Compaq's PDAs, that's never stopped many Notebook computer makers from selling their products.

Or many videocard makers as well. Often they just don't bring up the subject.

Edward, higher numbers are better in that graph :).

This unit has just been released here in UK and I should receive my sample next week so I will give feedback and probably a full review on the site as well. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see or know about it.

Andy, looking forward to your review!

I'd be interested in hearing about the backpack option and how this affects battery time. Same for the Wlan solution - this should eat power.

Not sure all that I will receive but I've been told it's the N20w model which has the inbuilt WiFi and has the larger 2,000mAh battery to compensate. I believe the backpack is an option that allows more power and CF and PCMIA slots but I may not receive that if it's optional. I'll keep you posted. It certainly looks an interesting device though.

I am really interested in this device as I have lots of Memory Sticks. Any news on a review??? Money is burning a hole and they are now in some stores in London so I am biting at the bit to go get one, but want a PocketPCThoughts review first.

Thanks

I have received the sample this week so I'll give some early thoughts over the next day or two.

Cool I will look forward to hearing your initial thoughts. I looked at one again in the store today, but managed to keep my credit card in my pocket.

I am happy to help review it, if you need help :-) I have lots of memory sticks.

Could you please test the ability to use some sort of keyboard with the acer pocket pc?
I would really like to buy the n10, but can't find anything regarding to keyboard usage. If the n20 can handle an (IR) keyboard, I take it an n10 can handle it as well.

This is really down to the keyboard manufacturer. Check their sites for a list of compatible devices that their drivers support.

You've had this for over a month now, right? Did I miss the review?

I couldn't review it. The power lead to the cradle was broken, there was no CD ROM hence no driver so the device could not be synced and the battery would not charge past 40%. This sample appears to have been less than well looked after. I did get a chance to try out the WiFi on the device which was simple to use and perform well and also transfer some wma files via WiFi to test the audio which was decent but not brilliant. Still not heard anything back from Acer so I will need to contact them again. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this device.
