http://www.soti.net/

Time for part four in my seven part Pocket Controller series! This time I will tell you a little about how Pocket Controller gives a developer more control. A common task a developer, or even a power user, has to perform every now and then is to register Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs). This can be done without Pocket Controller by a lengthy tap-and-hold and typing process on the Pocket PC. This is how do it using Pocket Controller:

The "Remote DOS box" that runs on my desktop PC, as part of the Pocket Controller tool, provides command line access to the Pocket PC. From the command line I can register any DLL on my Pocket PC and since I am using my desktop PCs keyboard, it is much faster than the "native" way.

Once I start debugging and testing my applications, Pocket Controller provides an excellent view of what is going on. I can watch and control any running process. As you can see in the figure below, I get a detailed view of applications, background processes and dependencies. If a process hangs, I can easily kill it. The process I most often frequently kill is, believe it or not, associated with ActiveSync... which I rather do than soft reset my Pocket PC.

Here's the deal: Pocket Controller puts me in control.

Previous parts:
Things I Like With Pocket Controller Part I (skins)
Things I Like With Pocket Controller Part II (file system management)
Things I Like With Pocket Controller Part III (ActiveSync stability)

Full disclosure: I am not associated with Pocket Controller in any way. I have received one free review copy, which is quite common. But that definitely does not lead to automatic raves. I just happen to like Pocket Controller very much.
