Did anyone else catch what appeared to be Dell's new Axim Pocket PC on CSI: Miami tonight?? They gave it a good 5-10 seconds of screen time; cool! :D

I hate blatant product placements in Movies and shows etcetera.

Yep! Noticed that myself and was just coming here to see if anyone else did.

As for blatent product plugs...GREAT IDEA!!

It's all part of a competitive global enterprise that drive competition up, prices down and allows us to be able to afford our tech toys. Hey, the blatant advertising stuff has been around forever and I don't think we are as offended by it as we once were.

If it means someone like, say...Dell...bring out a product that bring pricing down for the rest of the industry I am all for it.

Can you tell which side of this issue I am on? ;)

Personaly I find the overcomercialisation of oure lives quite disgusting.
I live in Belgium and up until 89 we didnt even have a comercial TV station over here(and yes we ARE a modern western country, Belgium borders on France, the Netherlands, Germany and is seperated by less then 20 miles of water from the UK).
Whenever im in the US and watch TV I get irritated by the amount of comercials and find it simply impossible to watch a movie or sitcom or whatever with the constant interuptions.
As if that wasnt bad enough they slip advertisements into the actual programs and even worse even in theatrical releases.
When I pay 7€( tax included, yeah despite oure 21% tax a lot of things still are a ****load cheaper over here) to see a movie I dont wanna get bombarded with product placements left and right, it cheapens the experience.
Sure ads are ok and they are there to serve a purpose but please dont kill my suspension of disbelief when im watching a movie or a show by having the actors utter a few lines no one in a real situation would ever utter.

Fishie... it's just a plug for the Dell and Pocket PC's across the board. I don't think anyone here had their show ruined by it. I wish I'd seen it, but from what I hear it's not that bad. Watch "Kung Pow!" some day... "Taco Bell, Taco Bell, product placement with Taco Bell!" :D

As for the constant commercial interruption, well it pays for our TV. I'm ok with it so long as it gives me 500 some channels to watch. Most of us find ways around it anyhow. I myself use a TiVo.

Well, the modern economy makes producers face a fundamental problem: where to get the $$. There ain't easy answers anywhere. :(

Did anyone see "The Truman Show"? There was the extremism of overcommercialism. We have to go a ways to get there, I think... unless I'm Truman... oh no! 8O

Sorry pal... but hour 49 of live coverage of you at your computer wouldn't exactly make for stellar entertainment. Great movie though.

it was an interesting plug - I am glad like minded people came here to post the news. From what I can gather the show was recorded in August (if someone can confirm that would be great) so the people @ Dell and behind CSI must have some product placement deal because I didnt see any pictures of the device until early November.

It probably was just a shell though as the CSI guy didnt turn it on. Thankfully it didnt get hit by the sniper's bullet.

I like how episode aired on the same day the product was released. I was shocked to see them holding a Dell. I had to look twice! Usually you see the iPAQ, like in the movie Big Fat Liar. Or something that has been out for a little while.

Too bad it wasn't turned on, because I'm sure there are lots of people that had no idea what that little square thing was.

I had to back up my ReplayTV and take another look myself. I don't know about it being recorded in August though seems a bit more current than that what with the Sniper and Axim both.

I thought it was cool also that it was on the show the day it was released!

Like what? There is a killer in the dark woods lets split up and go investigate? Or go ahead punk, make my day. It's not just ads that make movie lines unreal, heck half the time that actors are uttering their witty one liners most "normal" people would be running around cursing! And if anyone ever suggests going unarmed into the dark to look for a killer, I'm just going to stab em myself!
