I've seen a number of posts where people without screen protectors have dust, and people with them don't. This seems strange to me, as the screen protectors I've used in the past (my PDA is horribly out of date, don't ask - I'm getting a new one in a couple months) don't cover the area where the screen actually meets with the housing of the unit.

I guess I don't get it, as I would expect people with screen protectors (at least the type I've used) to have the same dust problems.

I don't suppose that the e550g's screen is particularly susceptible to scratches and dings, and the "dust" is actually marks on the screen? I know it sounds silly given that the people complaining obviously have a lot of experience with PDAs and probably know the difference.

This screen protector == no dust thing just confuses me.

Well, protectors such as the G2 (http://www.pdascreenprotectors.com/) or NuShield (http://www.nushield.com/) slip between the screen and the case. Since they fill the already small gap, this probably helps to prevent dust from sneaking in that way. There were other ways for dust to get inside older Pocket PCs, but I think those problems have been resolved in the current generation. (Dust used to be able to enter through the stylus slot or CF slot, as well as the gap around the screen, but I think all displays are sealed these days to prevent stuff like that from getting inside the display.)
