I always wondered how people made screen shots on their pocket pcs. You know, the ones that are often on the front page, displaying a program or a new theme. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance

There are a couple ways to do it: one is to use a dedicated screen capture program (do a Handango (http://www.handango.com/) search for 'screen capture', there are several). Another method is to make use of a Pocket PC remote control program such as Pocket Controller (http://www.soti.net/) and take the screenshot from your desktop (the Print Screen key usually does the trick).

the cheapest way to do screen shots is to download microsoft's remote display control app at http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/downloads/powertoys.asp

once you have this installed you can use it to remote control your PPC screen, then to make a screen shot just press the printscreen button on your desktop computer. That will put the entire screen shot of your desktop on the windows clipboard. You could then crop the picture to only show the remote display control window.

I know this sounds like a lot to do for a screen shot but it's free. There are programs for sale at pocketgear.com or handango.com that will do exactly what you want but they cost a few bucks.....

An excellent application that does this and a LOT more is Pocket Quick View by BitBank Software. It even lets you choose what format the screen shots are (bitmap, jpg, etc.) For personal use, it's free:

if you use gigabar (free), you can use it to take screenshots. it's under the "internals" part of the function menu, and you can either take an immediate screenshot or a delayed capture. it saves the files as bmp for you. it's really quite convenient.

From their web site (I don't think it's free anymore:

Could be. I was going by what's on the Handango site, which may be outdated.

No, you are correct...(That's why I removed my post. Unfortunately, by the time I was able to delete it, you had already responded.)

Things are going slow here, my ISP is killing me today (The other thing I posted about was Gigabar, by the time I posted my response it was already discussed)

Anyway, from the Bitbank website:

Pocket PC (PPC & PPC2002 - ARM, SH3, MIPS) Downloads

PQView PPC is available for download HERE . This is a user-friendly install program which you run on your PC when connected to the CE device. This code is a full version with no time limit.

Sorry for the confusion...

I actually use this method quite a bit, and it's a fair bit easier than that. If you control-printscreen (not using a Windows box at the moment, can't verify, but I'm pretty sure that's right), Windows will take a picture of just the active window (instead of the whole screen). Paste into mspaint, save as a .bmp. As my nephew would say, easy peasy.

Thanks guys, is it me or does pocket controller runs very slow. I have a PIII 650 mhz 512 sd ram, 128mg vid card and a 3955 ipaq, the ipaq is fine but the responce on the window on my monitor is very slow

Here are two more screen capture options.

First, if you have an iPAQ 3800 or higher, the iTask utility has a screen capture utility built-in. The one problem may be getting it to work without also capturing the iTask menu.

Second, you can use the freeware program that I use -- Magic SS (http://www.louterrailloune.com/magicss.html).

It's not you. You'll always see a bit of a delay when using it.
