Man, that's cheap! $275 and no shipping for a new PPC. Tempting.

With the Dell coming out in 17 days for $199, I'd probably wait.

That isn't to say that the Dell will be a better deal (all reports seem to indicate the Viewsonic has a better screen for example) but more of a "with it that close why not at least check out the Dell first".

The dell is .2 inches thicker and 2.4 ounces heavier. It also looks rather bulky. I'll pass unless Dell has some uber coupon deals on it :D

Is there a good user/hands-on opinion yet?

With a long-life lithium-ion battery, the V35 has the power you need to multitask all day

Hmm, I've heard that before.

Do you have the measurements for the Viewsonic V35? Height/Width/Depth? I can't seem to find the measurements anywhere. Thanks.

Keep in mind, we don't know what the specs of the Dell are yet. When those slides leaked to PDAFrance, Dell's official word was that they were legit but the specs of the device are not entirely accurate.

All the more reason to wait.

If that is true, maybe that is because Dell has a dual slot and V35 hasn't :D

Don't know the exact specs but a friend played with one and said it was PalmV sized.

I read somewhere that it's made by Mitac. There's PDF spec sheets available on their models at:

http://www.mitac.com/micweb/products/main.htm

The 206DDS looks most similar to the specs of the Viewsonic and the size specs of that unit are, 114.1mm(H)/73mm(W)/and an incredible 10.3mm deep. If this is the case I really hope that the Dell release will drop the prices down on the Viewsonic even further, that would be sweet. But I'm almost tempted to wait for the new HP 1900, apparently they're touting it as the slimmest new model as well. This is all getting quite exciting, but hopefully they'll all be out sooner rather than later so I can finally get my hands on one of these puppies after the reviews start pouring in.

Is anyone planning on a review for the Viewsonic?

One last question is that when MS releases the next version of their OS for Pocket PC next year will it be a free upgrade for users of PPC2002? Also are they going to update their hardware requirements? I'd hate for something I buy to be outmoded within six months. At the same time I find myself not wanting to wait that long to buy a unit even though it will mean that it's good for a couple of years. Any ideas?

Assuming Viewsonic will send us a unit, we'll certainly review it.

As for a free OS upgrade, highly doubtful - we have to pay for every OS update on the desktop, right?

Except that the 206DDS doesn't have the 300 MHz XScale, it uses a 206 MHz processor (It says, "Arm 9 Thumb, 200 MHz"). Other than that, it does seem that this could be the same unit (perhaps they just made a 300 MHz version for Viewsonic?).

Also - it says it has a front-lit transflective screen. I thought the point of having a transflective screen was that it could be backlit, which gets rid of the parrallex problem (by reducing the distance from touchscreen to display). The Mitac PDF says it's specifically front-lit using LEDs (as opposed to the lamps used by my old iPaq).

Hmmm.... I really want to hold one of these in my hands and play with it before I buy.

Any Canadian retailers (web and/or brick n'mortar) selling the V35? I've been looking, but haven't had any luck yet.

I just ordered the Viewsonic from Amazon. When it first showed up for $249, I hesitated, and then it went to $299, and so I kinda regretted not getting one. Now that they have the $25 rebate though, I think it's a great deal - it's almost the same size/weight as the old Palm Vx, which is perfect.

My trusty iPaq 3650, which I got over 2 years ago, is now non-functional due to a slight crack in the touchscreen (which I managed to live with for 2 months, since I could still use the graffitti area, but then I had to hard-reset it, and can't get past the "align touchscreen" portion of the setup... If anybody has an extra iPaq touchscreen they want to sell cheap, or wants to buy an otherwise functioning iPaq, let me know :-(

Does anybody know WHEN Amazon will be shipping the V35? The site doesn't say, but I hope it's SOON.

Got this from the Viewsonic website (but the original was a big TIFF, so I resized it and posted it to my webserver).
