During 2001 and 2002 when other phone makers were losing market share and selling fewer phones, Samsung was taking market share and shipping more volume in a declining market. They have their bases covered in the smartphone segment too. They have devices based on MS's Pocket PC Phone Edition and SmartPhone OS, Palm and there is a Symbian on the way. The chart CNET has gives a bit more info on some of these devices as well as estimated availability dates. This is great, I have been waiting for Sprint to bring a PPC Phone Edition, I have a Toshiba 2032sp, It is a very good device, but it is missing the Phone Edition. My plan is 500 minutes anytime and 4000 minutes nights and wekends and UNLIMITED DATA for $54.99 a month. I'm so looking forward to next year! :D

Wow, that's the first I've heard of this! Is the Smartphone 1600 for Sprint or Verizon? And does it have built-in bluetooth, or at least an SDIO slot?

The question is, will they be coming out with a GSM/GPRS version for T-Mobile?

But I will say, I want it to have BOTH integrated Bluetooth and an SD slot.

Now, come on. You T-Mobile users already have cool stuff. Sprint customers have been waiting forever :)

Precisely, us Sprint customers have been waiting a long time for new toys! Though I'm not looking forward to switching plans and having to pay by the data rate when i get one of these devices! Wireless Web is soooo nice...$5/month flat rate, all the data I want.

And I would switch to T-Mobile/Verizon/etc., but I've had the same phone number since 94, and would hate to give it up.

Another thing I noticed: the new Palm phones Samsung is offering DON'T have Palm OS 5!

It does have an SDIO slot but sadly no bluetooth. If you search the forums here for the i600 you'll find a link to the FCC page this device was listed on. There is a PDF of the manual.

I'll still probably buy one of each (I'm a sprintpcs customer and I've felt deprived) but I do wish they were both a little more attractive. Hopefully the camera in the PPCPE unit is at least decent.

saw the I700 while I was in Korea 3 weeks ago. It felt comfortable in my hands. The stylus is located on the left. The OS is not the the Phone Edition. The darn thing hangs when I tried to write using transcriber! :cry:

it sports a Xscale processor and 64MB of RAM. :D

Maybe you got a very early beta because I am 99.9% sure (and it's stated in the above link) that the i700 will be PocketPC 2002 Phone Edition
