Sony just announced a portable CD player that can also plays DVD. and what's cool. It support USB 2.0 as interface.

now....imagine if any PDA will support that mini-USB plug. you can conect this puppy to a PDA and watch DVD in full!.... nevermind compression.

than you'll have a portable entertainment system! (well actually Sony have one model of pocketable display with portable DVD/CD player but it cost $1200)

But darned it.....who has a PDA that support USB2.0 host interface? (can it be done via CF? how about PPC driver for this CD rom?

somebody......quick, put on the thinking cap! ack, so close but yet so far.

I'm definitely not an expert. I'm just brainstorming. Toshiba e740 supports an add on ($100) that contains a 2.0 USB slot (marketed to use for PowerPoint). www.TigerDirect.com sells a "palm sized" miniDVD player made by Archos. I got one for about $80. Theorectically, it seems one could connect a portable DVD player to a Toshiba. I suspect there would be some serious issues with drivers, but haven't tested it. (My toshiba is still in the mail and I haven't bought the add on.)

won't any DVD player need some sort of driver on top of the USB physical connection?

Lifeview.com also announced a CF video card that can accept all standard TV plug (S vid, RCA , etc) and display it to PDA up to 30fps full screen.

if any portable DVD player has S video output. than the CF can act as a bridge and make PDA as a display without the need for other driver.

Yes it's confirmed, you can use that Sony new $300 portable DVD player as feed to PDA. Since it can hook up to TV using S video plug.

There is a S video CF card adapter available for PPC, so you can just simply plug the DVD player to the CF card. A direct USB plug would be so much better but this is way cool.

Almost Nirvana achieved. (not that you can buy either the CF or the DVD player just yet. They are not even released until next month. heh)
