i was browsing recently and i think i saw a program that saves an "image" of the ipaq configs an settings and stuff. basically, if you had to hard reset the device you could load this "image" back onto the ipaq and be up and running in no time flat. has anyone heard of this? i'm in need!!! thanks.

Generically it's called a backup :). Most PPCs come with software that does this. If you are looking for something with more control, maybe you saw Pocket Backup http://www.spritesoftware.com/home.html

Keep in mind, backups need to be done at some regular interval. If you load something on your machine that hoses it, or it just gets corrupted on it's own, you can go back to the last backup. If you backup with the offending item on there, you will just restore the offending item. How much data you loose, depends on how frequently you back-up.
