My financial life is a little bit complicated with a side company I have to track separate expenses for, so I decide I need some simple financial management software. Of course my first choice is Microsoft Money because it is the only package that seems to sync with PocketPC.

Anyway, so I get a copy of Money 2003 Deluxe & Business to try out. I set up my first account, and then set up the backup policy and do a backup of what little work I have already done. Then I download a bank statement with the nifty built in web browser that already has the URL of my bank built in and that understands electronic bank statements. Way cool!

But, oops, I only downloaded the last month's statement and I want to reconcile the last 6 months of info. Ok, I'll just go back to the last backup and start over. So I do, and download the 6 month statement instead. Woohoo!

On a serious note, anybody who has dealt with accounting knows that you run away very fast from an accounting software package that EVER makes such a grievous error let alone in the first 5 minutes of use. :(

Oh, and on the PocketPC side, what's up with the default, "Hey, let's show your account balance on your today screen," thing?

Maybe now that I've seen Money, I'll go over to the local Intuit shop and give the guys there a kick in the pants--we NEED Quicken for PocketPC!

So what are other people using for bank account and expense tracking on PocketPC?

Go ahead. Use that number to buy anything you want.

No, that's not my account number. First thing I checked. What it SHOULD be is my account balance of way less than enough to buy Japan.

I am using Inesoft's Cash Organizer Deluxe 2002 (http://www.inesoft.com/new/eng/index.php?in=deluxe).

It is a bit expensive but it packs almost as much power under the hood as MS Money for the desktop. Pocket Money was just a bit too flaky for me and earlier versions resulted in me loosing months of financial data from my desktop Money file due to poor synchronization. All Inesoft needs to do now is add synchronization with Money and I will be virtually 100% satisfied.
