http://www.beamable.com/

We received some information about a group of people at start-up beamable.com that plans to begin selling digital comic books in the near future for Pocket PCs, Palm devices and J2ME Smartphones. They don't really have any books available yet, but they are looking for people to try out their special viewer and provide any feedback.

As I was looking at the three-frame test issue from the site, I was reminded of the illustrated "Comic Book Classics" that my school teachers used to try to get us interested in - books like "Treasure Island" and "David Copperfield" (It didn't work). Could this be the latest, more modern incarnation? Judging by the various SpiderMan, SpeedRacer and Wolverine avatars among this readership, I suspect you'd all prefer the good, old-fashioned kind of comics we all grew up with. Right?

Who among the readership has a Wolverine avatar? :)

I'd like some Dexter or Samurai Jack comic short...

Wasnt this idea discussed in the 1980's move "BIG" with Tom Hanks??? an electronic comic book?

I'm not a big comics guy, but I think this would be pretty cool, especially if the price is a bit lower than the paper version.

Can anyone Say Dotcomics? Marvel has a great thing going even though they are very lax in keeping current, but considering it is free to view a Dotcomic why complain? I have even suggested that they port the dotcomics to Pocket PC though I doubt the Device would be very condusive to the Dot Comics format. Anyway, I love comics. I have a quite a few. Pocket comics could be great for the art, but not if the titles are flat.

We'll see.

I don't know...I would think that a single frame-by-frame book would work very well on the Pocket PC. In fact, the image might actually often be larger than with a paper comic book.

It looks as though the comics being created by beamable.com use computer-generated images, which is unique. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing the old-fashioned hand-drawn type on a Pocket PC.

get pocketflash and then save the comics from Marvel DotComics (http://dotcomics.marvel.com). I like the interface alot, but i haven't tried it out on my iPaq, so i don't know how well it would translate over....

well, we believe in comix and mobile entertainment -- its certainly not a huge field, but the dev costs are likewise not huge either.... so this is what we re experimenting with:

www.gridbloc.com/comix (http://www.gridbloc.com/comix)

GridBloc Comix , americans mocking americans -- who doesnt like that!

they re new - and evolving, so let me know what you think, yeh?
if u like, sign for a free sms reminder (clickable link included so no need to triple tap.)

of course, being formatted for PIE, they ll also work with wi-fi or wireless pocketpcs (and reg'lar old browsers too)
