Can someone clear something up for me? If box is checked on the connection tab to receive all incoming beams, does that mean the unit, iPAQ 3835 by the way, is always searching for an IR connect and draining battery power and if this is true, by unchecking the box does that turn it off thus reserving battery power?

I'm a bit confused on the matter.

You are correct. To conserve battery power most people uncheck it and rely on the independent "IR Receive" program instead to selectively accept things beamed to them.

It reduces the battery life a lot.
