I recently purchased a Belkin USB adaptor for my Desktop PC at home. I paid 39.00 for it at COMP USA. Here is what I am able to do with my IPAQ now.

-Access the internt (dial-up) through bluetooth. That means my IPAQ actually uses the desktops modem to access the internet.

-Access every file on my Desktops PC. Using Resco's File Explorer, I can browse, transfer and even delete files from my desktop right from my IPAQ.

-I can listen to 2gigs of MP3 files that are on my Dekstop PC from anywhere in my house (even the front porch and backyard patio), from my IPAQ.

-I can wirelessly use Active Sync to sync my PDA with my Desktop.

-Plus the good ol'e IPAQ still can play awesom games, control my entire home theatre system, type up a word doc, work on an excel spreadsheet, read a book etc.

Bottom Line. For a small amount of money, you can add great functionality and useability to your IPAQ.

It is awesome to be able to watch TV and browse the internet and even chat with friends on AOL's Instant Messanger.

Contact me for help or questions......every IPAQ bluetooh"er" should be connected at home.

At this point, why not just watch TV on the ipaq... :?:

That is really not the point I was trying to make. Watching TV on an IPAQ is only good if you dont have a normal size TV available....say on a plane, train etc where carrying a 32" TV is not a good idea.

Being able to do all those things with an IPAQ is just plain cool. If you have an IPAQ and are want to use it to its full potential, then Bluetoofh isnt so bad at home.

I currently listen to 25 gigs of mp3'slocated on two desktops throughout my apt thanks to my cf wifi card. I did this via withMP# (citsoft.net $15) and PocketLAN ($15). I control my stereo through Nevo and my desktop music through remoteamp, though I still use musicmatch when using the desktop. The screen is sweet. Enough to make that strip poker game worth buying. I am looking fwd to getting a T68i and Running Voice next month.

Fattizzi -

could you walk me through a set up? I have two Dell computers (laptop, desktop) and I'm running DSL on both through a LinkSys router. I want to be able to go anywhere in the house with my ipaq and access both computers and connect to the internet. Obviously, I don't need the desktop to go wireless. I can access it through mappings on my laptop. So, what hardware would I need to buy to access my laptop/internet from my ipaq? Thanks for your help.

In your case, I would go with WIFI, and not bluetooth.

Just adding a bit of humor.

Isn't an Ipaq with a sap-n- type violating RIM's patent???

when connecting to the desktop, what settings are needed for Internet surfing?

I am running XP Pro and will have a BT CF Card in a HP 568 soon

This remote control is probably the most expensive and powerful in the world. The specs?

• iPAQ 3975 with Bluetooth / 64 MB Ram
• 256 MB SD Card
• SilverSlider CF Expansion Pack Sleeve
• Symbol Wireless Networker 802.11 Wifi Card
• Snap-n-Type Mini Keyboard

Sorry, but that's not even close to the most expensive remote control. I was watching "Fresh Gear" on TechTV, and they went to Harvey's Electronics in New York (a high-end dealer, I gather). They showed a dedicated remote that cost $4500. I even went back on my Replay TV to verify that price.

As they just mentioned it in passing, I didn't see why they were charging $4500 for it.

Even that iPAQ isn't that expensive if you think about what could be easily added. For example, replace the 256 MB SD card with a 512 MB one and the Silver Slider with a dual PCMCIA sleeve. For good measure, drop a Toshiba 5 GB hard disk in it. And I'm sure other people could get more expensive systems without resorting to specialty sleeves like barcode scanners or LAN sniffers. :-)

Lexicon used to do an expensive remote, but it fell by the wayside when the Philips Pronto. However, you could look towards the likes of Crestron for top end remotes that really go to town with technology - if you've got the cash.

However, that's getting off the original point. I'm reluctant to use the Ipaq as a remote purely because I tend to walk off with it - leaving everybody else in the house stuck. Sticking to the (albeit black and white) Pronto for now...

I just saw that "Fresh Gear" again, and I was wrong. The remote is $4000, not $4500, but there is a programming fee.

The remote is made by Crestron (http://www.crestron.com), but I couldn't make out the model number.
