What's the story on the unlock code with the T-Mobile, there's so many storys, out there, one guy gets it the same day the next guy 10 days, I personally was told that Rogers AT&T had to give me the unlock code. Which they tried but they didn't work. So what's the deal? Someone make a keygen and make our lives a little easier.

Only the carrier that sells the phone has access to the unlock code, Rogers can not unlock a T-Mobile phone and vice versa. Your best bet is to send an email to [email protected], with all pertinent information like IMEI, your name and address, and proof that your phone was purchased with out thier subsidy. This is usually a quick turnaround, but I have had one email, get away from them and I had to send them another one.

Good Luck!

Actually, I was able to get my unlock code from [email protected] w/o presenting a receipt. I've only had the phone and been a T-Mobile customer for a couple of months. I bought the phone from CompUSA.

It was pretty easy.

RDC,

Rogers AT&T is a Canadian GSM Carrier so Hank is not a T-Mobile customer, and what I have heard is that they want proof he did not a get a subsidized phone(i.e. T-mobile paid for part of the phone to get you to sign a contract)

I did send them a receipt for it, showing that I payed for a phone without carrier and I sent them the IMEI number, Twice!, and I sent the last one with a notification on it so I could tell if it was even opened, not a peep.

Thats odd, I had to wait a few days, but I always got a response. When I sent my emails, I never got a read receipt, but I did get a delivery reciept. You might also try www.howardforums.com and see if anyone there has any more ideas. There are a few T-Mobile reps that read the T-Mobile forum.

why is there so many different storys to getting the unlock code, I'm currently trying a couple of different ways, I've called them and they said that they'll e-mail it to me, I've e-mailed the way a couple of people of recieved theirs by, here's their latest response-

Dear Mr Scorpio,

To release an unlock code you will have to set up an account with T Mobile and meet the requirements per company policy.
When an account is set up, please forward the account information: name on the account, account and mobile number attached to this e-mail.

Thank you,

To repeat what Isaac stated, the reason they replied with that email is because you don't have an account with them.

T-Mobile subsidized the cost of that phone partially to make it cheaper for the consumer and more attractive. They do this because they expect to have the subsidy returned in the form of monthly subscription fees.
Others probably had an easier time getting the unlock code because they were able to verify that the request was from an existing customer and therefore provided it without hassle. With you, they don't show any record of this.

One way to get it for sure is to offer to pay the subsidy and obtain it that way. It's not free, but at least you can use it.

Well guys there is one thing that is absolutely positive concerning T-Mobile's policy on unlock code. They do NOT have a consistent policy, which makes it very difficult for those in search of a code.

After going through the experience myself, reading many posts from others who have, as well as receiving several emails from others, I think that the most effective way to get a code is to buy a plan from them for 3-12 months (whether you plan to use it or not) Once you are a customer call their Wirelees Data Department and request a code, (they will tell you what info they need) stating that you wish to use the phone while outside the USA. It can take up to 2 weeks to get it, but this seems to be the most effective way.

Good luck

Dave
